UDD to assemble again on Jan 21

United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) core member and opposition Puea Thai party MP Jatuporn Prompan on Monday said the red-shirt UDD protesters will gather in front of the parliament on January 21 to oppose the appointment of Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya who said the closure of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) was fun.

Mr Prompan said the UDD will send letters to embassies of the nine Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) member countries by the end of this week, asking them to withdraw from the Asean summit in Hua Hin from February 27 to March 1.

He said the anti-government group also planned to protest and surround the Foreign Affairs Ministry at the same time.

The UDD leader demanded Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to jettison Mr Kasit and dared him to dissolve the parliament and return power to the people if he believes the popularity of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is waning.

He said if the Democrat party wins the general election, the UDD will stop its political movements.

Mr Jatuporn claimed that the reason the Puea Thai party gained less seats after the by-elections on Sunday was due to the government's abuse of authority, adding that the Democrat party's victory was unrelated to people's sympathy for the Democrat members after the red-clad protesters pelted eggs at them.

No comment on the bye-elections except that I practice what I preach in that honoring the vote above all else is crucial to a societies ability to overcome turmoil. No need to get into the poor turnout or lack of interest for voters to turnout (again) three times in the past one year. Hopefully, when there is a new nationwide election everyone will stand up and be counted.

No fan of the Democrats, PAD, Military, Courts can cheer these election results as long as the rule of law is ignored in other elections.

Now, that leads us right back to my core complaint that the election 2004 was illegally stolen by a military coup and than re-stolen in 2008 by the military installed courts.

What I really want to get out to all is that you cheer things that censure, condone illegalities and devalue freedoms which seem, to me, to be far worse than the stable government, growing economy, filtering down of the wealth, employment, foriegn investment, standard of living, etc. which we had before you fans jumped on the "take the quick illegal road" to get what we want. Why can't the same result(s) get done by way of (1) the vote and/or (2) legal proceedings and (3) impeachment if necessary? Takes more time but it surely would get the same results without all the pain and suffering experienced to date.

Well, we can all see now that you (and we) are getting what you wanted. Did you really think that the Democrats were going to sing a new song for everyone? Back to square one for Thai Democracy I guess. Grass-roots groups coming together to form a consensus which will overpower the current "one party" system and re-establish duly elected government by popular vote nationwide. Long time coming I suppose.

Sincerely hope those who post unwavering support what is happening open their minds and eyes to view other perspect

This whole UDD thing is annoying. Like, no one is ever going to be 100% happy with the government. This happens all over the world. Step up and get over it. Thaksin is PAYING you to protest, now is that seriously the kind of politition you want?

Bob did you ever bother to find out who bankrolled the PAD. It's not that hard to do, it's big business like the banks and CP group. Did you know that A's father is on the BOD of CP? Probably not or probably don't care.

I don't think they should be protesting like the PAD did but I don't have any say in it. I feel they should use their efforts to organize and restructure. They should rebuild the TRT/PPP/PTP party to aim at the sentiments of the voting public and try to draw good quality new people into their fold so it looks like they have made a major change in direction and leadership.

Jatuporn Prompan should get a life. Stop playing this game with the country. If the UDD is so into saving the country not themselves, why they don’t protest everyday like the PAD? I guess money from Thaksin does not circulate everyday. Just imagine if they protested for 30 days in a row and the protest average crowd is about 5000 people per days and they get 400 bht per person it will cost Thaksin about 20000.00 per a day which is equal to $5823 per day. So for 30 days it will cost him 6’000’000 baht ($176’470.588). I would to encourage more protestor to show up and take the money that Thaksin has stolen from Thailand and give to the protestor who needed the money more than him. The UDD does not stand for United against Dictatorship it should stand for Unethical Dictatorship for Thaksin Dictatorship. Mr. Kasit advised the current government to be dissolve after the UDD have lost. The UDD were advised to dissolve the parliament when Somchai left as prime minister, but they rejected because they thought they could win again and their party could retain power. Since they were wrong and now they want the parliament to be dissolved, get real. If even the parliaments is to be dissolve and the Democrat party wins the general election, the UDD will not stop its political movements, because they are a communist/corruption party that is trying to take over the country. Just I have seen the Red Shirt like to throw the egg at people during the protest that is a low class organization led by the 3 UDD guys. If Thailand wants to be more Democratic country every politician background should be check on what they have done in the past and put it out in the media, because Media in Thailand is not as free as other democratic country that can run anything bad about the politician, because they can be murder.

    WTF

Nothing personal. It just struck me, reading your last post, that you could have a future in politics! I would never in a million years vote for you, but you are very fond of 'sound-bite' rhetoric.

You could say that this posting board is like 'politicians and reporters'. You let fly with your sound bites, and Kaweeka and I are the international press that either try to trip you up or question you to probe deep than you sound bites show.

So what was your big sound bite in your last post?

...but I'm willing to have them do the dirty work of dismantling the monster Thaksin created...

that is so glib a sound bite, you really should and ought to expand on this. You cannot drop such a howler and simply walk away, scot-free.
