United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) core member and opposition Puea Thai party MP Jatuporn Prompan on Monday said the red-shirt UDD protesters will gather in front of the parliament on January 21 to oppose the appointment of Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya who said the closure of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) was fun.
Mr Prompan said the UDD will send letters to embassies of the nine Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) member countries by the end of this week, asking them to withdraw from the Asean summit in Hua Hin from February 27 to March 1.
He said the anti-government group also planned to protest and surround the Foreign Affairs Ministry at the same time.
The UDD leader demanded Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to jettison Mr Kasit and dared him to dissolve the parliament and return power to the people if he believes the popularity of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is waning.
He said if the Democrat party wins the general election, the UDD will stop its political movements.
Mr Jatuporn claimed that the reason the Puea Thai party gained less seats after the by-elections on Sunday was due to the government's abuse of authority, adding that the Democrat party's victory was unrelated to people's sympathy for the Democrat members after the red-clad protesters pelted eggs at them.
