UDD wants Asean to skip summit

  • Online news:

More than 100 supporters of United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) handed letters to the Burma and Singapore embassies in Bangkok on Friday, asking their governments to skip the 14th Asean Summit to be held in Hua Hin late February.

The move by the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) was led by former prime minister's office minister Jakrapob Penkair.

According to the letters, the government under the lead of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva "does not democratically represent the people of Thailand."

Mr Jakrapob said that the government comes into existence only because of the heavy manoeuvering of "undemocratic external forces."

"At the outlook, his coalition resembles the one with legitimate majority and seems politically qualified, but the very concept of such government can't be remotely considered democratic," he told reporters.

Mr Jakrapob also criticised Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, who is linked to the People's Alliance for Democracy.

The red-shirt group plans to visit seven embassies of Asean countries next week to hand over the letters asking their governments to shun the summit.

Drey, if you believe in democracy why do you back the UDD who is so obviously supporting Thaksin and not democracy?

I mean, they are carrying giant portraits of him at rallies and gathering to hear his phone in's like heroine addicts getting their fix.

They are cultists at best ... paid thugs at worse.

Your dream of "democracy" would be more palatable to the minds of others if you could actually disassociate yourself with the UDD and propose a more creative solution to the problem.

Having elections now is stupid - if we agree Thaksin is corrupt and the Democrats are corrupt, then whats the importance of holding a vote to see which one gets to rob the country blind?

I think people get frustrated with UDD supporters because of the sheer and obvious lack of logic in their arguments.

Believe what you want. Say what you want. All your vile slander targeted towards all that are against what has happened to Thai Democracy does and means NOTHING. I only answer you to let people know how justified I feel in my posts knowing that my beliefs and so many others within Thailand and outside coincide. It only makes me believe further which group of Thais have the true grasp on what is Democracy and how it needs to operate if it is going to operate at all. Posting vile attacks at others only shows everyone what terrible humans you are, morally corrupt, mentally incapable of neutral thought provoking conversation. Attacking others just for the sake of "hate" because they do not side with your views clearly says to me that "Your group" is very dangerous to society and hard won freedoms AND would be MY LAST dying choice if I needed help of any kind (even to beg for a grain of rice).

You all represent your "new" way of leading Thailand (actually it is the oldest way) very poorly and will certainly push more and more people to look at what has happened and decide that an imperfect Democracy like we had before the military coup works/functions by far better than what we have had since. If you do not want Democracy than fine. Say it! Don't be hypocrites defending military takeovers and all thats happened since to dismantle Democracy piece by piece. Call a spade a spade and say 'you like these "few" elitist leaders controlling the country'. Many countries move away from Democracy. Is that good? Does it work for them? More often than not NO! My beliefs run so deep, feel so justified, so clear that I will NEVER let others who are so full of hate they only lash out using vile words bother me. I will always prefer to let the majority voices of Thai people decide what they want, who they want, how they want it NOT the few jealous, hateful and desperate for power dictate what is right or wrong. That is for "fair unbiased neutral" courts to decide.

Yesterday, many of the "usual" hate posters said 'if you don't like it why don't you just go back to your home country?' Seems like a valid question right? Well, it was a fair enough retort to my position about all this so I thought about it a long while and what I realized was that my devotion to this cause comes from my love of what Thailand was before the coup, for my Thai family who loves the King so much, loves all Thais so much. That my family and I loved the new found Democracy Thailand was growing, even with its weaknesses and imperfections. The happiness, pride and devotion that the majority of Thais felt about their prospering nation. To see it attacked from within, by non-democratic methods, using force and changes in laws to achieve the powerful minorities aims is just something I cannot standby and ignore. I am so proud of other posters like Voice of Reason, Moo Noi, Soveny and yes even WFT & Kwegener (who at least often offer fact based opinions not only hate words) for their unwavering stance throughout all this. We are but small voices being heard by very few but it is exactly those few that hear us that make us continue our posts.

Time will tell who had a better vision of tomorrow for all Thais!

It looks to me Drey like you and your gang are the only people attacking Thailand. You are clearly not Thai, so why not simply leave. Everyone would be happier.

A friend of mine was at this "protest" and for the kicks of it, actually took some time to "interview" some of the red shirts. This is what he got from them:

    Question: Why are you here?
A: (Bewildered face) errr...uhm, TO PROTEST THIS UNDEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT!!

Q: Why is this an undemocratic government?
A: ....... (thinking) "because they are so unfair to Thaksin".

Q: I thought you came here to protest against the ASEAN summit being held here in Thailand?
    A: errr...uhm...yes, that too!

Q: What does ASEAN stand for?
A: ...(bewildered face again) (No answer)

Q: Who are the members of ASEAN?
    A: ....

Q: What is being discussed in ASEAN meeting that you protest?
    A: ....

Q: Does the military control the ASEAN?
A: YES!! They are all puppets of the junta! Abhisit, GET OUT!

    I'm speechless....

    Sorry folks,

Unfortunately, these days, it is easy to compare Thailand to its notorious neighbor matching the blunders of freedom, humanity and justice(with justification).

Being ridiculed by the rest of the world should cause pause and take note of what they see as well as other clear headed peoples.

Now they are not doing for Thaksin, but for themselves to ensure some money flow from their boss. Plus the leaders have their pants on fire because they can't expect the help from the Police and prosecuters, after dems in power. Money and self-protection are their motivation.

    The UDD

(read: United Front of DEMOCRACY AGAINST DICTATORSHIP) handed over a petition to the Embassy of Myanmar... Is that a joke????
How insane have those loosers become? Handing petitions to dictatorship-government of Myanmar...
I thought the red-shirted no-brainers were defenders of democracy, and now seeking friendship and help from real dictators...
    Good Joke, really, LOL :)))))))))

Nice comment and I agree. And UDD say's it's purpose is to build democracy???

In fact, I wonder who advised them to approach Myanmar to boycott the ASEAN conference.

But wait a minute, look who's now a leader of the UDD - Khun Jakrabob. You never learn Mr. J. and you seem to have forgotten that the man who once saw you as his darling has abslutely and publically rejected you. Given the charges against you it might be more sensible to keep a low profile rather than involved yourself with contravercy.

My prediction is that UDD will totally collapse within 60 days. Which group will you join then Mr. J? Or more to the point, which group would want you?

But back to the point, UDD also appraoched Singapore. Do you really think Singapore (given the history of the last 12 months) wants to get involved in any way with Thai politics. I'm sure they will want to keep well away.

Now I wonder which country UDD will approach next? Maybe Nth Korea. But maybe Nth Korea is not a member of ASEAN, but never mind I'll guess that most members of UDD don't even know the purpose of ASEAN let alone know which countries are members of ASEAN.
