UDD wants Asean to skip summit

More than 100 supporters of United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) handed letters to the Burma and Singapore embassies in Bangkok on Friday, asking their governments to skip the 14th Asean Summit to be held in Hua Hin late February.

The move by the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) was led by former prime minister's office minister Jakrapob Penkair.

According to the letters, the government under the lead of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva "does not democratically represent the people of Thailand."

Mr Jakrapob said that the government comes into existence only because of the heavy manoeuvering of "undemocratic external forces."

"At the outlook, his coalition resembles the one with legitimate majority and seems politically qualified, but the very concept of such government can't be remotely considered democratic," he told reporters.

Mr Jakrapob also criticised Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, who is linked to the People's Alliance for Democracy.

The red-shirt group plans to visit seven embassies of Asean countries next week to hand over the letters asking their governments to shun the summit.

A group of 150 Red Shirts attacked monks meditating in a temple in the belief that Chamlong Srimuang was also there. After an hour they couldn't find him so they left. According to the Nation newspaper.

Does this sound like the actions of sane people or like the actions of a bunch of illiterate hooligans and low lifes.

To the rest of the Red Shirt supporters in this forum... you are simply not much better than this bunch of criminals...

Don't look down upon decision making of rural people. Even they were born in countryside, they have equal right to make a decision especcially electing their government. Unfortunately, stupid middle class people never repect to those poeple. In addition, they monopolise their own opinion, the best! Oh! What the poor people they are. Who can help them ( the stupid middle class people).Sonthi or Chamlong? They are canal-monitors or Hear in Thai. The only thing they should get is a nice soil which has colour like shirt they wear. Long live the red-shirt people. You all are heroes to get rid of national enemy or PAD.

here's some dictionary definitions, so we all know what we are talking about. These come from the website, www.dictionary.com

Legitimate - 1. according to law; lawful: the property's legitimate owner. 2. in accordance with established rules, principles, or standards.

Mandate - 1. a command or authorization to act in a particular way on a public issue given by the electorate to its representative: The president had a clear mandate to end the war.

Democracy - 1. government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them **or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.**

Bigot - a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.

does the last word sound as if it might fit some of the posters in here?

    @hey joe (#28)
we are always on your side, when you fight puppets like samak & somchai.
but you must not break or bend the law like toxin.
    you must stop killing people.
you must stop to fight the thai people who are friendly and peaceful and want an end to toxin & his puppets.
you must not hate homosexuals, even if they have stolen your best friend from you.
find new friends if you can.
try some true love beside homosexuality......

the government of samak WAS legitimate and had a mandate, because it was elected by the people of thailand in a general election. it does not matter who was in the government.... it was elected fairly. I think you are confusing yourself, scyriacus

...quote: "Some people would do better to comment on the news article in question"
what do YOU mean? what does YOUR post tell the audience.

    ---You are absolutely right.

...the article was about 'only 100 UDD supporters left'.

---Only 100, it does not matter if it is one or one hundred, the point is they are getting noticed aren't they?

...that's pretty good news. is tax-sin really running out of funds?

---Ah the old excuse, when you have run out of ideas to discredit your opponents, accuse them of being paid! I am not piad, I never have been. So, you might ask yourself, why do i do it? Why do i bother? Because I believe in democracy (real democracy), not this shambles you call a government. Mr A, who learnt his politics in Oxford University should know well the meaning of the words 'mandate' and 'legitimate'.

...ah, ic, you were clever and have been paid in advance.
    but maybe tommorrw bp headlines:
    only 99 ignorants left.......

---kharma, what goes around comes around, are you too far into the negative side now that you don't care?

    @unreasonable (#26)
so before the government of puppets was 'legitimate' including newin......
and after a slight change in coalition without 'democratic' elections,
the new government including newin is 'illegitimate'?
where the hell is your reasoning my dear friend?
what for you have a brain? just use it!
