Lawyer for ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra filed a case with police accusing Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban of defaming Mr Thaksin by saying he would like to return as the "President of Thailand."

Lawyer Wichit Plangsrisakul filed the defamation lawsuit with police at Dusit station accusing Mr Suthep of slandering the ousted premier in a statement he gave on Tuesday.

The lawyer said the statement damaged Mr Thaksin's reputation and the ousted premier would like to prove his innocence and loyalty to the monarchy.

Mr Wichit also brought newspaper clips and VCDs concerning the matter as evidence.

He said he will also file a civil lawsuit against Mr Suthep next week.

  • What Money Can Do

    Discussion 27 : 05/02/2009 at 07:46 PM27

WTF, I agree with you that the captain of the ship be held responsible as all executive orders have to be approved by him.Just as Milosevic was tried at the Hague, despite not physically killing anyone. And so many other despots too.

Only problem is that Thaksin has got too much money.Money buys lots of people and press too.Though he underestimated some Thai elites, with equally as much money as him. They managed to oust him but not enough to bring him to the Hague. Maybe not even enough to put him on trail.

You see, Thais have a reputation of having short memories. It's in their culture.Forgive and Forget.

david massingham - the captain of a ship is responsible for the members of his crew; the leader of a nation is responsible for how his orders are carried out by his police and military. I remember them damn near bragging about how many people they killed in their sweeps.

Thaksin's drug war - as are all drug wars - an abomination to humanity - a complete failure - and a black mark on Thai history. Drug production, sales, and abuse will only be overcome by providing superior alternatives, not shooting everyone in the head that falls into the pitfall of drug abuse.

Perhaps instead of just throwing money at his support base, he better spent that money on education. Perhaps if he poured money into bringing Thai education up to Singaporean, Japanese or Korean standards - emphasized innovation and industry, instead of encouraging people to pan handle for handouts - and indeed pan handling himself for foreign investment! It would be nice to see a Thai leader interested in a society of knowledge rather than one of dependence on foreign capital and tourism.

Chaing Noi - your arguments get tiresome - your denial astronomically confounding.

Thaksin just admitted - fully - in public that he is leading Pheua Thai and UDD from the front. Then, Thaksin precedes to clobber you over the head with my own argument in a very undemocratic and nepotistic manner, by appointing his family members as symbolic figure heads of PTP! To add further injury to insult - he actually admitted that he would like to somehow - extra-legally - install himself into power as a 3rd term Prime Minister!

Then! He says he will meet in person with Pheau Thai members in Koh Kong, Cambodia (conducting domestic politics in a foreign country? If there isn't already there should be a law against that) - to give them specific marching orders as to how they will bring him back into the Premiership! Oh! That was after he was denied entry into Japan on the grounds he is a fugitive, lol.

So if the Thai government notices sociopathic megalomania and points it out - I find it hard to blame them. By the way, Chiang Noi - could you please explain how a man sues for defamation of character when he has no character in the first place to defame?

Well Mr. Massing, I remember when Toxin was running for PM he needed to reveal his wealth, and suddenly his children, relatives, drivers, maids, gardeners were all Billionaires! Do you know what that did to my household economy? All my servants wanted a raise, just a few million please! Talk about keeping up with the neighbors!

david, as soon as you tell us that Thaksin did no wrong at all, then any thinking person just stops listening to your blather. As you totally ignore reality, why should anyone listen. Even T's fans admit somethings.....except, of course, for drey, who said T's lawyers were framed in the 2 million pastry box affair!! But hey, that's drey for you.

    Oh Dear Ms Clampton-
    Your bias is showing...
    1. Thaksin threatened, or actually sued people who said or printed things that he contended were not true. Now if it WERE true, any newspaper or individual worth their salt. should have taken him on in court. Journalists especially have a tendency to invent stories to sell copy. In Thailand as in U.K. or anywhere else.
    2. Where is your evidence he ORDERED mass killings?
He may well have said "fix the drug problem" to the cops / army, so blame them.
    3. Where did he "rob the coffers"? Like any business person in politics, he got business for his mates / himself. People associated with Thatcher / Blair in UK got the same benefits.
    4. He tried to AVOID tax not evade it. Thai law says if you sell shares on a personal basis through the SET there is no Capital Gains. He just got bad advice from his financial people on how to do it!
All rich people avoid tax, even some ordinary people too...
    5. He did not incite a civil war in the South- That was going on before he was around. And how was he or the army supposed to react to the beheading of rubber tappers?
    6. He was allowed to leave and the police and judiciary were relieved when he didn't come back.
They could have refused him that freedom, but he is no threat while out of the country.

I would though agree that he wanted Thailand to be more like Singapore. Mind you the girls would be a lot more expensive...

Why is a fugitive from justice or his lawyer permitted to file anything?
Thaksin wants justice for him, but he can not take what was dished out to him. Thaksin should see a proctologist as there is something or someone stuck up his ass. Ah just realised it is Chalerm who us up his ass so Thaksin really needs to see the proctologist

So now Japan has ban Thaksin from entering Japan. Way to go for the Jap. But if you can the UDD, they would say that the Jap need to get their act together like the UK.

To the blind UDD, Thaksin is almighty. Dog leading a dog, huh?
