Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Sunday dismissed the news about setting up a fund worth two billion baht to topple the regime of former premier Thaksin Shinawatra and the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) group.
Mr Abhisit said it would not be possible to set up such fund and the supplementary budget is not being used for this purpose. He said there is no need for the government to use its budget for political reasons, but it could be used to promote reconciliation and democracy.
He again called on the exiled ex-prime minister to return and fight his charges in Thailand, adding that the government will provide him with optimum security.
"The government is not giving importance to Thaksin's movement because there are other issues the government must focus on, especially economic problems and political reform," said Mr Abhisit.
Meanwhile, prime minister's personal speaker Thepthai said he challenged Thaksin to apply for a visa to enter Japan.
He also claimed that Puea Thai party MPs decided not to meet Thaksin in Hong Kong because they were afraid that China may revoke his visa.
The Chinese government allowed Thaksin to enter its country as a tourist and it would not want political activities to be involved, according to Mr Thepthai.
