A Malaysian man accused of bank card fraud in the southern province of Chumphon faces the additional charge of offering police 1.2 million baht in exchange for his freedom.
Teo Guek Ling, 43, was arrested last Friday in Songkhla's Hat Yai district and charged with using counterfeit ATM cards to withdraw cash from machines across Chumphon. He allegedly caused 2 million baht in losses to card holders.
Mr Teo is accused of installing skimmer devices and spy cameras in ATMs.
Police seized a rented Toyota sedan, two ATM cards, 1.2 million baht in cash and other items from the man.
He was captured by a team of officers from Police Region 8 with the help of Chumphon police while he was returning a car to a rental firm in Hat Yai.
Mr Teo tried to offer police a 1.2 million baht bribe in exchange for his release, officers said.
He faces four charges: stealing money, counterfeiting electronic bank cards, using fake cards and bribery.
