PM: No amnesty for Thaksin

  • Published: 10/03/2009 at 04:12 PM
  • Online news:

The government has no policy to compromise with fugitive deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Following the news about Thaksin's plan to return to Thailand by this year's end together with the possibility that the government may grant amnesty to banned politicians, the prime minister insisted no negotiations took place between the government and the ex-premier, and everything will proceed in line with the law.

He said the government would not grant amnesty to Thaksin since his cases were already resolved and they were corruption cases and not politically motivated.

The prime minister said he does not know Thaksin's intention to return by the end of this year, but remarked that he changed his comments frequently.

There should be no amnesty for the corrupt convicted criminal, vagabond fugitive. If he were ever absolved of his many crimes and returned to Thailand, the country would erupt into worse civil conflict than it has already experienced. He is the most divisive and destructive politician in the history of Thailand.
He has also been convicted of corruption, does not believe in the rule of law ( remember those 2500 that were killed without recourse to the law)although he claims that he does. His main interest is to take back his stolen billions, take over government and continue his corrupt crony style of politics, whilst raping the country of its money and resources. He can do this by continuing to throw a few baht at the red shirt zombies.

    Not surprise at all!

But at the same time Abhisit is planning to grant armnesty to the PAD leaders or trying to minimize the penalty if any at all.

He is becoming so bad on his decisions. Manipulated and control by those advising and surrounding him, Abhisit has become a puppet prime minister.

Wish he would make his mind up if he is coming or going. Seems like a man that doesn't know what he wants so let's hope he has no intentions on telling 60 million Thais what is good for them. Good on the pm for not cutting a deal. Fair is fair and the laws were in place durin thaksin time so he knows what laws he broke in search of personal greed.

Abhisit, if everything is proceeding in line with the law why is Potjamon walking around instead of serving her sentence. I would start believing you when just one thing you said made any sense.

Yes, we need him here. To put him in a cage, let him sleep on a cement floor, drink water from the tap, eat red rice.
But just like the other criminals we'd allow him to earn a few Baht a week.

Yes, we want him here and not jetting around the world from here to there.

Abhisit's claim that no negotiations have taken place between his Government and Thaksin is very likely to be true. Any such negotiations would take not invlve the PM, they would be conducted by his masters, he would merely be called in at the appropriate moment to be informed of his decision.
