More than seven million people in 491 districts of 53 provinces are suffering from a water shortage, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported on Wednesday.
The amount of water in many large and medium-sized reservoirs across the country had dwindled to 46.247 billion cubic metres, or about 63 per cent of the total capacity.
However, the dry season was less severe than the same period last year, when 55 provinces were seriously affected.
Meanwhile the government has spent 439.9 million baht to assist people in nearly two million flood-hit households.
Many areas of the country have been experiencing violent summer storms.
In northern Thailand, the dust level in Muang district of Chiang Rai province has exceeded the safe level at 124.3 micrograms per cubic metre. In Mae Hong Son's Muang district, the dust density was 191.2 micrograms per cubic metre, which can be harmful to people's health.
