Around 500 red-shirted protestors surrounded Chiang Mai airport and the adjacent Wing 41 air base to intercept Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s arrival Saturday afternoon.

The group said its supporters in various districts of Chiang Mai would show up at every site the prime minister visited during his trip in the northern province.

Police and military personnel had secured the airport perimeter, and security checks had been tightened at the adjacent air base in order to prevent red-shirted demonstrators from entering.

Lt Gen Thanongsak Apirakyothin, the Army Area 3 commanding general, said military personnel would help police provide security at the agriculture station on Doi Angkhang, where Mr Abhisit was scheduled to visit.

I had just gotten back from the airport at 2.35 p.m. Less than 10 minutes of this news is reported. There are less than 100 Red-Shirts there. Not 500 people. Your report made it too many than it is.

It is hot at the airport. I feel sorry for them.

Good luck with the PM, Good luck for the Red-Shirts

Is that the beginning of the airport seizure by the red shirts? Has Thaksin succeeded in using Thai People as cannon fodder to satisfy his desire for revenge? It is now obvious that he risks a civil war. If Thai People follow him to this point, it will lead to irreparable desaster. Economy, tourism, credibility will be affected for a long, long time.
There would be far less damage to the country when People are patient and wait for the next elections!
    Good luck Thailand!
