People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leader Sondhi Limthongkul, who was targeted by gunmen in Bangkok on Friday morning, is recuperating well but his driver remained in intensive care, doctors at Chulalongkorn Hospital said on Monday.

Two gunmen fired several clips of ammunition from assault rifles into Mr Sondhi's car as he was being driven to work about 5am on Friday.

The PAD founder's secretary, assistant Wayuphak Mangkalasin, and driver Adul Daengpradab were wounded, the chaffeur very seriously.

Mr Sondhi escaped with bullet shrapnel wounds to his head.

Hospital director Adisorn Patradul and a team of doctors held a press conference on Monday to report on the conditions of the three patients.

Mr Sondhi was recovering and there was no infection or other complication, Dr Adisorn said.

The PAD leader could do some activities without assistance and eat normally. Doctors would continue monitoring his condition. He might be released on Friday.

Mr Wayuphak’s condition had also improved.

Mr Adul, who was hit in the head, body and leg, was still in intensive care. He had regained consciousness and could blink occasionally.

He could move his arms a little but could not move his left leg. His pulse was normal but he was still on a respirator and suffered from a swellng of the brain.
