Former supreme commander and older cousin of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Gen Chaisit Shinawatra, is ready to be the new leader of the opposition Puea Thai party.
Gen Chaisit said no Puea Thai members had approached him yet after Puea Thai leader Yongyuth Wichaidit affirmed that he will submit his resignation letter next week.
"I believe the appointment would be up to the person who is living abroad (Thaksin).
"If this happens to be the case, I would not be included in the list for consideration," Gen Chaisit said.
He said he had proposed himself earlier but the party did not give any response.
However, the ex-supreme commander said he had no problems with the person who is living abroad, and he would be willing to help since they are cousins.
Meanwhile, Puea Thai MP Suchart Lainamngern said the new Puea Thai leader could be one of the MPs, a military official or a businessman.
Changing the Puea Thai leader this time may allow the party to prepare for the new general election, Mr Suchart added.
