Puea Thai expects decree's approval

Opposition MP Surapong Towichakchaikul admits he expects the Constitution Court will on Wednesday rule in favour of the government's executive decree authorising the Finance Ministry to raise 400 billion baht in loans for urgent use in stimulating the domestic economy.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has said an extraordinary session of parliament session will be called between June 15 and 23 if the court rules the decree is constitutional.

Mr Surapong, a Puea Thai MP for Chiang Mai, said he would like the parliamentary session to be broadcast live because the opposition had a lot of information on the 400 billion baht loan scheme it would like to explain to the voters.

He said the loan money would not give the economy an immediate stimulation, which is the reason the government has given for raising the money by urgent decree, since projects worth more than 200 billion baht would not be  implemented until next year.
