US actor David Carradine, the star of television series Kung Fu and the Kill Bill movies, was found dead Thursday, the US embassy here confirmed as police said they suspected suicide.

"We can confirm that Mr. Carradine passed away in Bangkok today," a US embassy official told AFP.

"He was found in his hotel room in Bangkok but the cause of death has not yet been established," the official said.

A police official said he suspected Carradine had committed suicide, after the actor's body was discovered in his hotel room.

"We suspect that he committed suicide by hanging himself," local police officer Pirom Janthapirom told AFP, adding that security cameras showed no one else going in or out of Carradine's room.

"We found his body hanging in the wardrobe of his hotel room at around 11:30 am (0430 GMT) with a rope around his neck," said Pirom.

"We are investigating from where he got the rope because it does not seem it was from the hotel."

Pirom said that all of the actor's personal belongings "were intact."

"There is no trace of fighting in the hotel room and the room was locked from inside," he said, adding "there is no sign of bruising on his body."

Carradine played Kwai Chang Caine in the TV series Kung Fu and played titular villain Bill in Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" movies.

He was the son of prominent actor John Carradine and part of an acting family that includes brothers Keith Carradine and Robert Carradine.

My first thought was "foul play." I don't believe for a moment that he hanged himself.

    RIP.

I remember wathcing Kung Fu on TV back in the early 1970's. It was kind of fun. Then Kill BIll Volumes I and II. He was quite a character with fairly good dialogue in the TV series and Kill Bill Volume I and II, which resurrected his career. Too bad that he passed away. He could have been an older version of John Travolta revival.

Why do I have a weird feeling about this one? My instincts and initial reaction is one of many questions and doubts. Hung in the closet with curtain cord? Any suicide note? Written in Enlish? I always thought most westerners commited suicide in Thailand by throwing themselves of high level balconies.
Well, I'm sure in no time the crack Thai metropolitan police force will have an answer.

Wow, another dead farang by suicide. I could almost bet a million dollars that David would not commit suicide. He was too in love with himself to do that. Picked up the wrong bar girl?

Very sad to hear this...We will miss you David; loved the "Kung Fu" series very much. I will rent and watch it again soon! May your soul rest in peace and be with the Buddha!

No one travels all the way to Bangkok to work and then decides to commit suicide. He could have done that at home. More likely it was murder.
