A study on internet users in Thailand conducted by MasterCard Worldwide reveals that 80 per cent of the respondents have been using the internet on a daily basis.
The study involved 501 Thais aged between 18 and 64 years with a personal income of 781,000 baht (22,000 US dollars) per year, or 22,329.50 baht (629 US dollars) a month.
80 per cent of the respondents surfed the internet everyday.
92 per cent of those used the internet for sending and receiving emails, 80 per cent for reading news, 73 per cent for educational or work purposes, 70 per cent for entertainment, 60 per cent for chatting with friends and 43 per cent for shopping online.
The company also made a study on 5,037 online shoppers in 10 countries - Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa and Thailand.
Apart from South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong, people who would like to shop online rose from 66 per cent in 2008 to 69 per cent this year.
Vice President and Country Manager for Thailand, MasterCard Worldwide, Eileen Wee, said the popularity of online shopping had increased despite the economic slump mainly due to its convenience.
