The Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) on Monday began its study of the NGV bus project backed by the Bhumjaithai party.
The cabinet assigned the NESDB to make a comparative study oif whether it would be better to lease or buy the 4,000 buses.
Monday's meeting was chaired by Panas Simasathien. The NESDB has been given a month to explore the options.
On Sunday, Mr Abhisit said the NGV bus scheme is a good project, but the government should be given more options. He also said he supports a public hearing on the controversial bus lease project.
