A number of Puea Thai MPs, led by Vicharn Meechainant, on Tuesday submitted an open letter to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, asking him to review the Transport Ministry's plan to acquire 4,000 NGV-powered buses for the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority.
The opposition MPs wanted the prime minister to review the whole project, including the number of buses and bus routes.
They said the government would be held responsible if the project was found to have been marred with corruption and failed to help the BMTA get out of debt.
They also said it was improper for the Bhumjaithai Party to mount a public relations campaign promoting the bus leasing project while it was still being studied by the National Economic and Social Development Board.
The NESDB was assigned by the cabinet to study the project and recommend whether the bus fleet should be leased or purchased.
