Baby panda's name on Aug 12

The baby giant panda at Chiang Mai Zoo will learn her name when the result of the naming contest is decided on Mother's Day, Zoological Park Organisation director Sophon Daengnui said on Friday.

Mr Sophon said officials will on Friday store all the names sent by the people taking part in the contest from all over the country into the computer alphabetically.

A special committee will then hold a meeting to set criteria for name selection. The names will be shortlisted to 300, 100, 10 and then  four by June 15. 

 The zoo will then alloiw  the general public to vote on the four names via a special panda postcard designed for this occasion.

The baby panda will be be given the name that receives the most votes.

The winner of the naming competition is promised a million baht in prize money and a car.
