The tourism related industries were worried that the mass anti-government demonstration by supporters of the pro-Thaksin United front for Democracy against Dictatorship at Sanam Luang today will lead to unrest, chairperson of the Domestic Tour Agents Association, Maiyarat Peerayarnkoseth, said on Saturday afternoon.

The tourism sector have been hit hard by the global recession and the seizure of Suvarnabhumi airport by the yellow-shirt people, Ms Maiyarat said, adding that any return of  the political turmoil would aggravate the problems of the sector.

She admitted that the red-shirts have constitutional rights to rally against the government, but it must be done in line with the law. She called on all parties to refrain from resorting to violence means in settling political conflicts.

Well I am planning a month long trip to see camabodia, vietnam and thailand, and was thinkng of spending the majority of the time I have exploring thailand. But from the posts I have read here I am better off spending as little time in thailand as possible. It's a shame really as Thailand looks a good place to go but it seems that the thai people are little more than crooks who see any foreigner as a millionaire cash cow to be milked dry at all costs.

Amazing ! How can tourism be promoted in a country where
"84.5 per cent viewed that corruption in businesses would not be unusual and 51.2 per cent said they would tolerate a corrupted government if it can improve the country and their well-being." BP servey

How can anyone want to deal on any level with a country where this is the prevalent view ! "Come and be cheated. Find any socially corrupt practice ! Corruption Welcomed"

The findings of this survey made me very sad as it demonstrates the moral decadence accepted here which people should be ashamed of. When taking a vacation, who wants to be immersed in corruption!

Thailand has had it too easy for far too long ever since it let the USA do what the UK did, use it as an unsinkable aircraft carrier 40 years ago. Unfortunatly the world moves on as mentioned above Maylasia is a lot more welcoming to us"aliens" than the Thai government is. Viet Nam and Cambodia also wnat our money and skills. Thailand is very good at the blame game blaming farangs for everything well they had better get used to it the money has gone people in the west are more concerned about keeping a roof over their heads than a 2 week holiday in Thailand.

I love going to Thailand, but not this year because of the double standard placed on foreigners. In America you as a guest are treated with respect and as a equal. The laws are the same for everyone. Yes I would like to buy a house and live in Thailand part of the year but the goverment and all the bull shit that goes with it is not worth it. I spend money I bring people with me they spend money. You visa laws are ever changing and need to be updated. I as a falang do not want to take over your land I just want to enjoy it.

Meanwhile the world is experiencing a global slowdown, the recession in Thailand is completely "made in Thailand". Mrs. Maiyarat Peerayarnkoseth blaming the outside world-foreigners for the failure to lure tourist is unfortunately standard procedure when something goes wrong in Thailand.

    1. Tourists ending up for weeks in prison for a '1000 baht fine crime'.
    2. Constant flip-flopping with VISA regime.
    3. Tourists ending up in detention facilities for alleged VISA problems.
    4. Closing VISA issuing consulates (no VISA, no vacation in Thailand).
    5. Making it hard for retirees' and long-stayer compared to countries like Malaysia (second home program).

    You wants more visitors????

Check how Malaysia is welcoming their guests.. http://www.mm2h.gov.my/conditions.php

There are of cause limitations.. like You are allowed to import one ONLY 1 car TAX-FREE.

The Country has to suffer because of injustice, illegal government, interference of military and PC. The present rally is the result of all unconstitutional events that led to this illegal government. Only when democracy, freedom and justice is return will we see recovery and back to narmacy.
