About 500 members of Khon Rak Udon (Love Udon People) red-shirt group, led by chairman Kwanchai Praiphana, had taken buses from the northeastern province of Udon Thani heading to Bangkok Saturday afternoon.

Mr Kwanchai said his group members are expected to arrive in Bangkok at about 4pm to join forces with the red-shirt people from other province at Sanam Luang.

He stressed that the red-shirts will call on Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to dissolve parliament to pave way for a fresh election. The government should give power back to people to allow them to choose the new government.

Red-shirt people from various provinces, particularly those from the North and Northeast are now heading to Bangkok to attend mass anti-government at Sanam Luang which will begin from 5pm today.

Leaders of the United front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) had confirmed that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will phone in to address his supporters at about 8.30 pm tonight.

Jatuporn Promphan, a core leader of UDD, insisted on Saturday that the red-shirts will rally only at Sanam Luang and will disperse early morning on Sunday. He stressed that the protesters will not move out to seal off Government House, the Si Sao residence of the president of Privy Council Gen Prem Tinsulanonda and other key state offices as many people fear.

The Government at the time of the Yellow shirt protests, and the one now witnessing the Red shirts various actions is a DIFFERENT Government.

Why do so many people say 'the Government ' is treating them differently? Abhisit and the Democrats were NOT the Government at the time of the Airport seizures etc.

OK, maybe they could redress the imbalance 'with hindsight', BUT it is NOT their fault there was an imbalance in the first place.

Hindsight is such a wonderful thing, but very few people seem to have the foresight to deal with all this rationally, on any of the various sides.

    PS - re. Gerbers question to Michael, I speak English, as a native, and some French, German, Bulgarian and Thai, plus various scraps of other European languages. But since this is an English language paper I use English. Personally I find it easy to understand most of the comments, and think those who complain are being 'elitist jerks' ;}

the fight for the rule of law to be upheld is a sine qua non for any society. last night reds protest constitute one of these many basic rules underwritten in many consitutions around the world. for it hold water, all colors of protests should be dealt with fairly and equally. therein lies the salvation of the thai nation. the red shirts should now ensure they are above board whether led by jatupon pranpom or others besides thaksin for now. it's essential for their survival if not for the thaksin factor in thai history. Members of the red shirts should behave accordingly and to be the on the lookout for outside hostile elelments who may want to stage a rig or drive a wedge amongst the red shirts members. gutter politics is not short of these "orchestrated" loopholes to sabotage one another. Beware of "fixings" by outsiders. now that the unequal treatment by the government of the day of the red and yellow shirts are quite evident, the red shirts should redeem their respect from the thais across the board. now that the elitist elements of the present government is also quite evident, the yellow shirts together should be trounced by the red shirts come the next election.

Neither the Reds or Yellows offer the solutions to the problems that Thailand faces. Their positions merely polarize the nation, and whatever side assumes power will bring in crooks that will enrich themselves and their cronies. What Thailand needs is a new alternative that works for the people; poor and rich. It's also a misconception that Thaksin is the saviour of the poor. While in power he did more for himself than for anyone, and is still using the poor people as a catspaw to return to power/

The present illegal government will not dissolve the Parliament because they know they cannot win a election and they can only come to power through unconstitutional events.

    Dear Michael

Your elitist goverment is trying to win the heart of the red shirts. but so long as there are people like you in the party (who call them poor or uneducated), the government has no way win their heart. it is the job of the goverment to do for the well-being or good education of the people.

You do not know how to appreciate people to be on your side.

I hope you would understand it!

Re Mike's post. To me it says this !
"Please go ahead and claim back your rights. Thailand society only give rights to Yellow shirt supporters. Look at what they did and were not punished. If Red shirts did what they did they would be charged, the government, police and army condone the Yellow shirts actions, awarding them with government positions, but condemn any actions taken by Red shirts.
For the good of Thailand the present government should be abolished.
