Ban Ki-moon to travel to Burma

  • Online news:

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will travel to Burma this week for an official visit, his spokeswoman Michele Montas announced Monday.

Ban's visit to Burma on Friday and Saturday comes as the government continues the internationally condemned trial of democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who faces up to five years in jail on charges of violating the terms of her house arrest, after an American man swam uninvited to her lakeside home.

Time to leave the gloves at home, Mr Ban, and start reading the right act. The UN has a charter, the principals of which Burma refuses to adhere too. So why are they allowed to be members. Is it just so UN officials can visit Asia's last jewel in the tourism crown and express concern. And the same applies to ASEAN who have had plenty of opportunities to suspend Burma from the organisation. If the UN wants the respect it should get its time to get REALLY tough with the likes of North Korea, Burma and Zimbabwe. The powers that be are more than happy for the UN and the likes to show concern while they enjoy the good life and their people starve. And time for China to behave with some responsibilties. Goodness knows Mr Kim is making life tough for Beijing. SO cut him off at the knees before the fall out from a nuclear bomb drifts across Chinese soil!!

And meanwhile back in Burma, send someone else rather than Gambari. He has proved totally impotent in handling the Burma situation. The Burmese people are wonderful people. And they deserve better than 'our concern'. Pity Malloch Brown, Kofi's deputy, isnt around any more in NY. He was a rottweiler but is now being house trained at the British FCO

Wonder why the UN keeps visiting Burma when it can't even make any difference in any way.Waste of time, money and effort which is better spent on other charities. The UN is only a paper tiger.
