Red-shirt people throughoutthe country will celebrate former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's 60th birthday on July 26, Jaran Ditha-apichai, a leader of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, said on Friday.

Mr Jaran said  hundreds of Buddhist monks will perform religious rites at  designated spots nationwide.  Preparations had been made for Thaksin to phone in to talk to his supporters simultaneously at every spot.

In Bangkok, there would be a ceremony at Sanam Luang, where 60 monks will chant a prayer for a long life for Thaksin, he said.

Mr Jaran predicted as many as three million peopole would sign the UDD's petition for a royal pardon for Thaksin.  Although not all red-shirt leaders agreed with the move, especially among UDD leaders, he hoped both would sides to be open to having different opinions.

Tuta - would you be referring to the fully armed combat troops on the street suppressing a protest?

Remember, there are always two sides to a story yours, mine and then there is the truth.

Good point Scary. Clearly from posting #3 someone thinks they are in North Korea already. Mr Kim will not be happy at the thought of another 'dear leader'. The world doesnt need another one (and arguably one is more than enough)

Only difference is that in North Korea you have NO choice but to celebrate Kim's birthday. At least here most people will choose to ignore it. And of course there is nothing to stop Mr T. trying to turn up at one or more of the parties.

I hope that the UAE authorities are aware of another phone in, in breach of his residency condtions. if not the thai embassy should alert them.

I think those who wish to celebrate this person birthday are as sick as this person. Have you all forgotten what happened in April? It is not matter whether you are red or yellow... but as a person and a citizen of Thai or any country why on earth you solute the one who only glad to destroy his own country? or who so coward and pushed people to be killed or in violence only for his own personal interest? Wake up guys/gals... if you are not smart , at least has concious. Those who are lining up to sign that sick document also ask yourself would you allow such to happen to anyone who robbed/killed/ your family/cousin... etc..?If yes, great put the sign infront of your house to welcome thief..... I sure many would be glad ... especially in this difficult times..

moonoi - Who stole my posting ID, but that's OK, I came out of the closet and use my radio station ID.

It's a simple formula why the Post is promoting this. Thaksin is selling newspapers because he's back on top of the political heap.

Lets see if it is a sporadic party or a big big party. If it's a big big party it will be BIG BIG news.

Many happy returns to you Dr. Thaksin.

Why you not make flags for you birthday or T-shirts. I want to buy and sell at market in my province.

YOU ARE OUR OWN GREAT DEAR LEADER..FOREVER. PLEASE COME BACK AND TAKE THE PEOPLE TO NEW PEACE AND PROSPERITY.

Most Thai people love you dear Thaksin. but there is a thin line between love and hate. Nobody care about Sondi's birthday. we don't even know when it is and nor do we want to. Only you Thakin, our dear leader forever!

A birthday party for him? That's really sick, actually very perverted. No where on earth does an elected leader have his birthday celebrated nation wide, accept maybe ......... NORTH KOREA!!!!! And of course the elections there are just as fraudulent as they were under Thaksin.

Everyday that Thaksin is allowed to perpetuate and cultivate his personal cult, is another day closer we come to a Khemer Rouge style disaster. Remember the Reds during Songkran? We want to keep letting this "Dear Leader" manipulate weak minds? Is anything good going to come of this?

What's a birthday celebration do to further the cause of Democracy? Its almost as if UDD and PTP aren't about democracy, its almost as if they exist solely for Thaksin's benefit and amusement.
