The private sector was now keeping a close watch on the country’s low inflation rate situation after the consumer price index (CPI) was reported to have declined for six consecutive months, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), Santi Villassakdanont, said on Saturday.

“The private sector was worried that if the CPI continues to drop for another two or three months, it could hurt the production sector as manufacturers will be forced to cut their production" Mr Santi said, adding that this could lead to more layoff of workers in the future.

The FTI chairman called on the government to speed up its economic stimulus measures to enhance domestic consumption to help boost the economy. The consumers and the private sector are now waiting for the starting of investment by the government.

Although, it never hurts to get our economic house in order, esp, during hard time, but as a major exporter, there is little we can do to avoid the current deep & long global economic meltdown. Until the US gets its act together, preferably, with a new president, in order to pull itself out from the bottom of a $15 trillions financial hole, nothing will ever improve.

The "Airhead" Apisit fails to grasp the full extent of the meltdown and to blindly follow Obama's unrealistic economic policies with the same miserable results.

Thaksin benefitted from the era of "Cheap Money" scheme concocted by the crooked international bankers and corrupted American & European politicians. As far as, Thaksin is concerned, it was luck other than anything else that was responsible for the economic boom.

They will be waiting a long time for this inept government to kick start the economy. Boy remember the good old pre-illegal coup days when Thailand had a government who could get things happening and lift the lives of the poor a down trodden. Just shows you how an illegal coup and THUGGERY BY THE PAD and betrayal by Newin friends can destroy a prosperous country.
