Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra had phoned and said he did not want the red-shirts to hold a 60th birthday party for him at Sanam Luang, Noppadon Pattama said on Wednesday .
Mr Noppadon said Thaksin thought it would not be suitable to hold the celebration to mark his birthday at the main public ground. However, he thanked red-shirt people for their good intentions.
The fugitive former premier had not mentioned the move to collect one million signatures to seek royal pardon for him by some UDD leaders and their supporters.
Thaksin has said he would not oppose the move as the UDD and red-shirts were free to do what they considered best.
An Abac poll reported that 81 per cent of people surveyed opposed the Thaksin birthday party plan.
