The military has not put any pressure on Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya to resign from the cabinet, Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said on Monday.
"The army is not exerting pressure on Mr Kasit and is not involved in politics," Gen Prawit said angrily in response to reporters' questions.
He said the only issue he and Mr Kasit had discussed was the Asean meetings.
The minister together with defence permanent secretary Apichart Penkitti and Supreme Commander Songkitti Jaggabatara travelled to Phuket province in the morning to check on security measures for the Asean meetings there from July 17 to 24.
Gen Prawit said the government had not been told of any potential protests in Phuket, but officials would not underestimate the situation and would do whatever was required to maintain order.
He asked Phuket locals to help authorities oversee security and order in the province.
"If all sides cooperate with the government no problems will arise," he said.
Previously, the governmend had to cancel the Asean summit in Pattaya on April 11 after several anti-government protesters stormed into a resort where the regional meeting was to be held.
