People's Alliance for Democracy core members and their supporters plan to rally at the Police Club on Thursday when the 36 PAD leaders are due to report to police to hear criminal charges, including an act of terrorism, over the blockade of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports from Nov 25 to Dec 4 last year, PAD lawyer Suwat Apaipak said on Wednesday.
But, the 36 PAD leaders would not report to police because they could not accept the unduly harsh and exaggerated charges against them, Mr Suwat said.
Mr Suwat said the PAD leaders would instead submit a letter objecting to the charges and asking police investigators to reconsider them. If the charges were not reviewed, they would petition the Administrative Court.
Of the 36 people charged in connection with the airports blockade, only Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya has reported to police to acknowledge the charges.
Mr Kasit, however, had his lawyer Nitithorn Lamlua hand a petition to police chief Gen Patcharawat Wongsuwan on Tuesday asking that police drop the terrorism charges against him and the other accused. He said there was no evidence of a terrorist act being committed by them during the airport blockade.
According to the petition, Mr Kasit appeared on the PAD stage at Suvarnabhumi airport only once, on Nov 30, as a guest speake. There was no proof of him having committed an act of terrorism.
Also on Tuesday, the Criminal Court dismissed the PAD's lawsuit filed against Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, and Pol Gen Patcharawat for allowing police to lay unsubstantiated terrorism charges against leading PAD members.
The dismissal was made on the grounds that police had straightforwardly exercised their authority under the law.
