Noppadon:Thaksin not hiding B1.8bn

  • Online news:

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has not laundered 1.8 billion baht through an island tax haven as alleged by privy councilor Gen Phichit Kulwanich, the fugitive former premier's legal aide Noppadon Pattama said on Wednesday.

Mr Noppadon challenged Gen Phichit to submit evidence supporting the money laundering allegation to the Department of Special Investigation for legal action.

The former foreign minister said Thaksin is now running a diamond mine and television businesses overseas. Thaksin’s 100 television channels project for Thailand would start test broadcasts on Sept 1.

Mr Noppadon reiterated that Thaksin and members of the Shinawatra family were not behind the red-shirts' petition for  royal pardon.

However, Thaksin's supporters did have the constitutional right to seek royal pardon for Thaksin, he said.

Thaksin's opponents also had the right to oppose the move.

Critics of the petition push say there is no legal avenue to present a petition for a royal pardon for a felon who has not served part of his sentence and that a pardon cannot  overrule a court sentence.

Thaksin was sentenced to two years in jail by the Supreme Court for abuse of power while prime minister. He  skipped bail and fled the country before the sentence was passed..

Here we go again. The elites are so bent on revenge on Thaksin that not a week goes by that his name crops up again.
Do you know of any former prime minister(s) of Thailand who have been convicted? Many of them have enriched themselves at the expense of the hard working Thai public and have amassed huge fortunes. Did the govt. salary result in making them rich?? Even a kid knows that it was through back room deals and hefty commissions that were paid under-the-table to those in power. The game has not changed ONLY the faces in Thai politics.

Noppadon Pattama is paid handsomely for being a crony to toot Thaksin's horn. His, like many other's loyalities lie with the highest bidder. He has been on Thaksin's payroll for ages and is likely to continue as long as the money keeps flowing in. That's the Thai politics and the common modus operandi as has been the case in THailand for decades.

Could Noppadon be more specific - which diamond mine and which television business' is Thaksin running ? I ask because much of what Noppodon has parroted on behalf of Thaksin in the past has proven to be lies and falsehoods.

Diamond mine - now that's interesting - I'm not insinuating anything by the following fact, but let your imagination run with it.

One billion Baht in 1,000 baht notes takes up as much space as a full standard shipping pallet (slightly larger than a square meter), but a billion Baht worth of diamonds can easily fit in an average business briefcase.

    hi Michael

Khun Noppadon is making merit supporting the aspirations of the majority of the Thai people

if the minority elites choose not to join in unity with the majority then its doesnt make sense to try to blame the majority....

Isn't it better for Khun Thaksin to enjoy his lucrative overseas business and leave Thailand alone. As claimed over and over again by former FM Khun Noppadon that Thaksin is very much welcome as dignity figure when he is in the overseas.

I also like to remind former FM Khun Noppadon that he was a receipient of the King's scholars and that scholarship lead him to where he is successful today. As such, Khun Noppadon should spend more of his time to pay back the merit he earned to the country and earned greater respect by speaking words of unity and not only support khun Thaksin alone, irregardless of whether the issue is ethical or unethical.

It must be more than 1.8 Billion then.

Let's bring on the rest of the court cases please, as well as the war on drugs, exim loan to burma, ... so we can hear him sing another tune next time on shin karoake channel.

Just another case of how wrong this whole Thaksin coup was. When the really important people in this country start feeling the heat, they always blame someone else. So sad!
