More than two million had signed their names in opposition of the campaign to seek royal pardon for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Deputy Interior Minister Boonjong Wongtrairat claimed on Saturday.

The ministry had earlier ordered provincial governors and district chiefs nationwide to arrange tables for people who want to sign to show disagreement with the royal pardon seeking campaign by leaders of the pro-Thaksin United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD).

Mr Boonjong said he expected that by late next week, his ministry would be able to announce official number of people who disagree with the red shirts’ move to seek royal pardon for Thaksin.

UDD leaders, Veera Musigkapong and Jatuoporn Promphan, had on Friday insisted that they will submit the petition to the Office of His Majesty’s Principal Secretary on August 17.

House Speaker Chai Chidchob said he was confidence that the Ministry of Interior’s order on the signatures collecting campaign against Thaksin pardon will not lead to a severe social division because Thai people have the same beloved father - HM the King.

“I will next week invite Senate Speaker Prasopsuk Boondej and his two deputies to discuss ways for national reconciliation creating”, Mr Chai said, adding that after that he will invite representatives from political parties for a similar discussion.

Representative from the government will be invited after the premier had study proposals on charter amendment recommended by the parliamentary Committee for Reconciliation, Political Reform and Constitutional Amendment, he said.

If there is a letter circulated to all top government officials that they MUST collect X numbers of signatures or loose their job then for sure they will get 2 millions. Just look more deep into how it was collected and you will see most of them was forced to sign or loose their jobs and for that reason most of the signature is nothing else the signature from people working in the government.

Discussion 40: The United States, has the world's biggest economy. The united States leads the world in technolory, i.e., put a man on the Moon. The United States, makes the world's best aircraft. The United States, has given money to almost every country in the world, i.e., rebuilt Europe under the Marshall plan. The United States, never, uses protectionism regarding trade. The United States, is the only country in the world that allows other countries to dump on their markets, i.e., 60 Billion Dollars a month trade deficits with China. Under the Obama Administration you will see the United States, once again, excell in all areas. You'll see the new U.S. Trade Representative put the United States, back on track regarding trade and you'll see the United States economy double in value from nearly 12 Trillion Dollars to 24 Trillion Dollars. You will see a sleeping Giant, suddenly awaken and become the envy of the world.

    ohhhhhh Boy!
    You miss the whole point!
He did not avoid paying tax as on that specific type of deal, NO tax was required to be paid!
It appears that you have been seriously been mislead, and really do not understand the true situation.
The "no tax" was just a misleading strategy designed to confuse and gain the support of weak thinking persons such as yourself. It was spread by the anti Thaksin mob and seems to be working amongst the 'dumb heads' and easily lead portion of the population.

    AND ....PAUL #18.
You are right on the nail there mate !

    Good idea! TC
    I agree with you!
Besides hunting for Thaksin, the government borrowed more loans to chase for thaksin because he has lot of money as well if compare with loan. The final result is: the people all the country must carry the burdens of loan. All the leaders, damaged the country by their own contentious feeling under democracy pretext, not for all people!
    Bad management!

When the UDD announced that they will be collectting signatures for the petition, the government wasn't too much concern about it. They have underestimated the UDD. They thought the UDD will only muster a handful of supporters - maybe a few hundred thousands, and thus the UDD will eventually kill themself for having such a low turnout. But when they found out that not hundred of thousand, not 1 million, but more than 5 million have signed up, they have to do something to save their face. Thus the set up of countering signatures against the petition. You can bet by the end of the day the government will claim to surpass 5 million signatures just to save their face. Come on Democrates who is dividing the nation? Don't be a hypocrite.

Now they have 5 million. Don't you feel stupid? Or did they fake those numbers? I guess only the Dems can fake a petition. The UDD isn't capable of lying. Lol.

    God you people are stupid.

Yes, the Democrats probably are afraid of "democracy" if people insist on voting in Thaksin, president for life when he's already prohibited by law from serving a third term as PM. That's not even mentioning the fact that he openly works for foreign equity firms and is a convicted criminal. Lol.

    -Wow!

With all the political power structures at hands, this DP and their allies can only mustarded up 2 million signatures? Bangkok has close to 10 million people. There must be about 5 million or more adults in BMA. All DP and their allies could not signing up more or could it be that the yellow and their DP members only have number in the thousands. The civil servants in Bangkok along could account for more than 10,000 adults. If the singnatures can't match those UDD and their allies, than it is crystal as glasshouse; this current government and their allies are minority who abused power in order to rule over the majority in Thailand.

Until this country and the people who inhabit it fully understand the way a true democracy works there will be the lawlessness as exhibited by the military and the old guard. The powerful in this country are afraid of a true democracy since freedom of the majority will mean a loss of control and therefore revenue and reduction in corruption (both financially and of socalled "elected" officials)
As stated before, true democracies do not remove there elected officials from office! The military here is out of control!
