The cabinet on Tuesday passed a resolution to invoke the Internal Security Act in Bangkok's Dusit district from Sept 18 to 22, a source at Government House said.

The use of the security law would ensure law and order during the planned mass anti-government rally on Saturday by the red-shirted supporters of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), the source  said.

The red-shirts plan to gather at the Royal Plaza before marching to the Si Sao Thewes home of the president of the Privy Council, Gen Prem Tinsulanonda.

The demonstration marks the third anniversary of the Sep 19, 2006 military coup that toppled former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra from power.

Thaksin's supporters have several times accused Gen Prem of being the force behind the coup.

Sad they have to try and hold onto power in this way. When the country finally explodes they won't have anyone to blame but themselves.
