The train derailment on Monday will cost the State Railway of Thailand about 129 million baht in damage and lost revenue, SRT governor Yutthana Thapcharoen said on Tuesday.

Mr Yutthana said 120 million baht was in damage caused to rolling stock and tracks by the accident and about nine million baht from the halting  of train services  in the aftermath of the derailment at Khao Tao station in Prachuap Khiri Khan's Hua Hin district.

He said all south-bound train services were resuming today.

The SRT governor also denied he was resigning over the accident, saying that he would continue to work to the best of his ability.

He said the SRT would seek cabinet budget approval in the middle of this month to recruit 300 more drivers and engineers to meet actual train crew requirements.

this figure looks a little inflated (just like the police estimates of street value of siezed drugs). i seriously doubt that 2 world war II era trains are worth $4 million!!! aside from the 7 deaths which are a tragedy the loss of ancient trains are a good thing as they would have NEVER been replaced if they hadnt crashed.
