The cabinet on Tuesday approved the imposition of the Internal Security Act in Bangkok's Dusit district from Oct 15 to Oct 25, National Security Council secretary-general Thawil Pliansri said.
The move is inresponse to the United Front for Democracy's plan to rally again in Bangkok on Oct 17 to demand a progress report on what the government has done with the UDD's petition for a royal pardon for fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
The UDD has also announced plans for an out-of-parliament debate on a motion of no-confidence in the government on Oct 24.
The cabinet also decided to lift emergency law imposed in Pattani, Yala, Narathiwa, and four districts of Songkhla, and instead impose the Internal Security Act in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces only, from Oct 20 to Jan 19 next year, Mr Thawil said.
