Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyuth, the leader-in-waiting of the opposition Puea Thai Party, plans to discuss national reconciliation with key leaders of the anti-Thaksin People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), his close aide, Lt-Gen Phiratch Sawamiwas, said on Thursday.

“Gen Chavalit wants to hold talks with PAD leaders Sondhi Limthongkul and Maj-Gen Chamlong Srimuang to find ways to end the problem of social division,” Lt-Gen Phiratch said, adding that Maj Gen Chamlong has not rejected the idea.

A meeting with Maj-Gen Chamlong would be arranged next week after Gen Chavalit  returns from a visit to the far South.

 According to Lt -Gen Phiratch, Gen Chavalit wants to settle the following five major cases;

1) The accusation that the Puea Thai Party is not loyal to the monarchy
2) The division between the red- and yellow-shirt groups
3) The violence in the deep South
4) The border dispute with Cambodia, and
5) The rehabilitation of democracy.

    And according to me, the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) will want to include in the discussion, the case about Thaksin, who is actually pulling the strings on P.T.Party, and UDD red shirts, despite being forbidden of politics for 5 years (with the T.R.T. party).
    Chavalit is very well placed to confirm this point (depending on his honesty to reveal about his recent discussions he had with Thaksin...)

    Watch this guy carefully.

    The word 'reconciiliation' is simply not appropriate under any circumstances. And let's be honest, 'reconciliation' means let's get back to a situation whereby politicians can resume their corruption, collusion, and nepotism without checks and balances. In other words,'reconciliation' would be a 'process' which takes care of politicians and has nothing to do with moving forward and building a civil society and a strong democracy.

    What is appropriate is that all parties / all people have respect for the law to take it's course without any form of intimidation to anybody, and respect the decisions of the courts.

    Then we will be down the path of building and maintaining an equal and fair for all democracy.
