Govt would try to extradite Thaksin

If fugitive politician Thaksin Shinawatra decides to take up residence in Cambodia the government will seek his extradition back to Thailand, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said on Thursday.

Mr Suthep was not surprised by the remark by Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyuth, a key member of the opposition Puea Thai Party, that Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen had offered Thaksin a home, as they were close friends.

“But this was proof that Gen Chavalit visited Cambodia in the interests of Thaksin. The meeting between Gen Chavalit and Hun Sen on Wednesday was purely aimed at creating a good image for the deposed premier,” he said.

Chawanont Intarakomalsuth, secretary-general to the minister of foreign affairs, said he did not believe Hun Sen would build a home for Thaksin as Gen Chavalit had said.

He was confident that Hun Sen would give more importance to Thailand as a country than to any particular person, even if he was a close friend of Thaksin.

Thaksin's younger sister Yaowares Shinawatra insisted that her brother has no residence in Cambodia and she had no idea whether Hun Sen had built a home for Thaksin as reported.

May we assume that Thailand gives succour and sanctuary to Hun Sen's 'political victims'? Not a chance; not if there's money to be made in their betrayal. They will go to France. That the UK rescinded Thaksin's visa is telling, as they accepted Choonavon until he died.

Why doesn't the BKK Post explain the extradition agreements between Cambodia and Thailand? Are there any? I thought not; or Vattana wouldn't be living in splendour in his Poi Pet casino.

Chavalit's monthly expenses must be mind-boggling to even an A-list actor in Los Angeles. Remember all those girls who were engaged in 'flower arrangement' all those years ago by his now-defunct party? He has retired and re-entered politics about 7 times in the last 20 years. Is it any wonder that he needs to re-engage every so often to 'top up the tank?

Most probably see Thaksin as a political refugee. For none shall come and say that the current ministers are better than him. If Thaksin was considered a thief. That is the most in Thailand, the other to be like. They harm the country as much. Foreign Reporters in Europe to report all the time how bad it is with Thailand's corruption. You write about a corruption in two days. Then forgotten it away for the next scandal.

After what Thailand has tried to do with the World Heritage temple. I can understand why Hun Sen says all this. PM Abhisit trying to punish those who have helped Cambodia Heritage status for Preha Viehar. I think Hun Sen sees the current government as enemies of Cambodia. For it he does not need to be against Thailand as a country. This government with ministers and the Prime Minister has pointed out Hun Sen not serious in his statements.
Then Hun Sen knows that Thailand will have another Government after the next election. But it is not only he who sees the trend begins to reverse. More and more well-known politicians and military officers to move across to Pheu Thai Party. You could say that people from both left and right start to fail Abhisit.

Has Thailand ever extradised Khmer convicts on Cambodian government's request? You always say they are political vicitms. Hun Sen also said Thaksin is a political victim.
