The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) country members are ready to jointly bid to host the Fifa World Cup in the next 13 years, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said at the 15th Asean Summit on Sunday.

"Indonesia has already proposed itself to host the 2022 World Cup. The country would decide if it wants other Asean members to take part in this bid," Mr Abhisit said.

    This ain't gonna happen.
Besides all the safety, security transportation issues, the Myanmar situation etc etc, it's the weather which might play a major role. June/July is monsoon and typhoon season. FIFA will not take any chances. South-Africa next year was already a surprise. Let's see how this works out.
Perhaps Singapore and Malaysia as co-hosts. All Asean countries combined? I doubt that.

At least it will give the Police run betting syndicates in Thailand time to prepare.

Well, all FIFA really cares about is money. How much they can make and how much the bidders are willing to put into their corrupt little pockets. I'm sure if ASEAN is able to put enough money into Sepp Blatter's bank account and those of the other important figures in FIFA it is a possibility. But what ASEAN has to decide is whether it is worth spending so much money on stadiums and so forth not to mention the security costs. That money could do a lot to help people in these poor, developing countries.

I hope as long as ASEAN has Burma as a member, FIFA will reject this idea.
It is a piece of impudence to even talk about a FIFA worldcup in a community of states that tolerates the worst human-rights abuses of one of its members.
Such a big event is of no help to improve the situation in a country or in the region. The proof is Bejing. Human-rights abuses are much worse in China than before the Olympics.
ASEAN should clean up its community first!
