Burmese not happy with Hun Sen

Burmese people in Thailand are not pleased that Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen likened fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra with their arrested democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi.

After arriving at Hua Hin Airport to attend the15th Asean Summit on Friday, Prime Minister Hun Sen told reporters that the ousted premier was a victim of political persecution like Nobel Peace Prize winner Suu Kyi.

His comment caused a group of Burmese politicians, students and villagers to gather near the Burmese border in  Tak's Mae Sot district on Monday morning.

"Aung San Suu Kyi has been under house arrest for 14 years, is an unconditional fighter for democracy, has never thought of fleeing the country and is not fighting for her personal interests. She cannot be compared with Thaksin," a Burmese student said.

Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya's secretary, Chawanon Intharakomansut, said the Foreign Ministry had not asked the government to consider downgrading its diplomatic ties with Cambodia in response to Mr Hun Sen's statement that his country would not allow Thaksin's extradition.

"We'll observe Cambodia's reaction for now, after Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva called on the Cambodian premier to reconsider this issue carefully and focus on bilateral ties and benefits to both countries instead of one person's personal interests.

"The Thai government will look for new ways to bring back Thaksin to Thailand if the Cambodian government refuses to extradite him," he said.

If you were freely and democraticly elected by the people and made a trip outside the county only to find a coup had taken place and you were ousted behind your back and not removed from power to your face by a legal court of law and then to find the outsters formed their own court of law with their own laws to suit and to convict you of their say so accusations then you would probably feel in a no win situation right or wrong. How do you protect yourself from this. Until there is an honest non bias court proceeding over the Thaksin issues then I suppose we may never know the real truth. Only hear say. Question? When Thaksin was ousted by the coup the 1997 charter / constitution was in place. By this constitution was the coup leagal or not. I have not been able to get a complete honest answer to this question.

People seems to be misunderstand (or ignorant) about the comparison, yes Thaksin and Su Kye are 2 completely different people and the way they fight in political arena is totally different, but Hun Sen even caring to compare the 2 was because, by rules of law, the Asean suppose to take stance similarly to the similar situation, and that was Military power taken power from the elected Civilian Government.

Let us remember that San Suu Kyi stayed in her home country to face persecution even if the legal process was unjust. Although unjust, she did not lie to her country and the judicial system by telling them that she was going to the Olympics with the intend of running away.

    In my experience:

    - You stay and fight the fight if you know you are right even if you know you will lose at the end (San Suu Kyi).

    - You run and hide like a coward if you know you are wrong and know you will lose at the end Thaksin).

Clearly, we are looking at two completely different people: (1) one who truly cares for democracy and her countrymen and (2) one who only care for their own self interests and monetary gain.

So now the agenda driven domestic media is pounding the drums with anti-Hun Sen stuff.

This Government and their domestic media lackeys are absolutely paranoid about Thaksin. Now all-of-a-sudden Hun Sen is public enemy #1 for speaking the truth about the political persecution thing in Thailand.

    Relax.......

Just get on with the election and let nature take its' course.

Thaksin is a coward convicted criminal. Aung San Suu Kyi is a Nobel prize winner. Anybody but his cronies know that.

As I understand it, Hun Sen lost the first election after the Khmer Rouge were kicked out. He the refused to give up power and forced them to name him "co-Prime Minister". He then forced out the winner of the election to become sole Prime Minister.
It can hardly enhance Khun Thaksin's claim to innocence and legitimacy to be backed by Hun Sen.

How can any one say that Aung San Suu Kyi is any think like Khun Thaksin

She is a great lady who is fighting for the right of all people not just a few school friends and she is doing this from prison not like the coward Thaksin who is running away from every think and likening like Princes

Khun Thaksin would get more support if he was in jail and fight for his rights then running around like he is

There will be no rest in Thaiand until he comes from no matter what Goverment is in power

Although, not according to PT and Red-shi*t. Thaksin is so unfairly treated and living uncomfortably. Sad that is what they believe.
