Govt to monitor Thaksin's SMSs

The government plans to closely monitor the SMS messages that ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra plans to send directly to his supporters, to see whether they represent a threat to national security, Prime Minister's Office Minister Sathit Wongnongtoey said on Monday.

Mr Sathit admitted it was not easy to control text messaging.

The government would also check the programme content of satellite broadcaster PTV, operated by the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), following complaints that the programmes gives misleading information.

The political movement backing the fugitive politician was getting more vigorous, he said. He pointed to Thaksin's use of a leader of a neighbouring country to pressure the government last week, and the stress it caused.

Last Wednesday, Puea Thai Party chairman Chavalit Yongchaiyudh paid a one-day visit to Phnom Penh and met Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. He said latern that Hun Sen was willing to host Thaksin if he wished to stay in  Cambodia.

Gen Chavalit said Mr Hun Sen was full of praise for Thaksin and expressed sympathy for the "political injustice" he suffered in Thailand.

On arrival in Thailand on Friday to attend the Asean summit, the Cambodian leader said Thaksin was welcome to serve as his economic adviser and his government would not allow  his extradition to Thailand.

    Congratulations ricefieldradio disc.12 !
You have perfectly understood the meaning of "drawn the fish"! (An image)
-You brought to the discussion the fact that few species need atmospheric air to breathe! (To confuse the audience)

-For avoiding counterattacking on the points 1 to 5 of the discussion 6 as:
-Explaining why did the share value increased astronomically?
-Why former Prime Minister Thaksin used his position to benefit his own businesses, causing loss to state assets. (Modification of laws and contracts for his family)
    - And why he has to be rewarded for selling Shin Corp at the top value offer, without paying "taxes" or more precisely "PENALTY", as if there were no fraud-manipulation before.

(...this is the heart of the matter that sparked protests and kicked off Thaksin down)

"The nonsense is that of course, you cannot drown a fish"

Sorry.... BUT.... In reality you can drown a fish.

Betta, Gouramis, as well as many species of Catfish need atmospheric air to breath if they are immersed in water for an extended period of time they will drown just like you and I would.

Other types of gilled fish drown in a totally different way. They drown out of water as the gills inhale a lethal overdose of oxygen causing the fish to drown in the atmosphere.

sometimes I think I have actually died and am living in a sort of Kafka land....

I mean is this nonsense all part of reality? Have the inmates taken over the asylum.....?

I understand the solitary monk that decides to hightail it to the mountains and live with a knapsack slung over his shoulder. How can this all be real? We have how many thousands of years of "humanity" to teach us, and look where we are, in an absurd lalaland...

"Drown the fish"is an idiomatic expression (translation word to word from French).
It means: arguing over and over a subject with some nonsense in order to confuse the audience. The point is to have someone getting totally confused in the aim to escape the true topics. (The nonsense is that of course, you cannot drown a fish).
    Equivalent meaning: "to bamboozle somebody".
The nonsense of the discussion #3 point-2) was to write that there are no taxes on profits (the ice on the cake for Thaksin)...ok,
and avoiding to explain why the value of Shin Corp surged astronomically!?

I wonder would this government declares illegal if anyone received sms from Mr. Thaksin or would they declared ISA against SMS? Since ISA is used for everything else that threaten this administration of power...SMS would be one of it. To speak one mind is also against this administration as well...such as Hun Sen or Chavalit does...Now tell me, where is democracy!?

Re. to Disgusted #3, for your point -2)
The Shin Corp sale case to Singapore Temasek has to be view globally, by including all the steps, explaining why did the share value increased astronomically?

    - This is a list of five cases that allege the former Prime Minister Thaksin used his position to benefit his own businesses, causing loss to state assets.

1- Case on the order to convert mobile phone operator concessions to an excise tax, leading to a loss of the Telephone organization of Thailand of 30, 667 million baht.
2- Case regarding reducing revenue share paid to TST from prepaid mobile services from 25 to 20% leading to a state loss of 70, 872 million baht.
3- Case relating to AIS and its reduction of payments by treating networks separately for payment purposes to TOT. Loss of 18,970 million baht during the term of the concession. This gain enabled rise in Shin Corp before its sale.
4- Various breaks given by the Board of Investment for IPSTAR satellite projects within Thailand.
5- Case regarding Treasury officials in tax negotiations regarding the sale of Shin Corp.

It seems that Thaksin was the master insider player for his family benefits!

How! after so many damaged to the states coffers, Thaksin’s clan can sale Shin Corp at the top price offer, as if there were no fraud manipulation before.

Speaking about that there is no taxes on profits at The Stock Exchange of Thailand is only a mean to drown the fish!

You are right, RON #1: This whole thing is like a junior high school debate that goes on even after school is out.

It is funny, and of course sad how a military coup against a democratically elected government is just never, ever mentioned.

Did that not cause some "stress"?

And of course SCEPTIC #2: The continuous onslaught against Taksin has gotten to be so overdone it is like hearing the same joke again, several times a day, every day...

NICK #3: "the rapid slaughter of 3,000 people"

Well first they were not just innocent people, but people that had gotten caught up in a dirty drug war and "war on drugs". That war on drugs seems to have had some effect and Bangkokians are probably grateful for that.

I did not, nor would ever back such a ruthless way of dealing with drugs. By getting rid of the little street dealers you are just helping the strongest organized gangs to survive. The big drug barons are always somehow untouchable.

You also write: "'Political injustice' - every criminal in Bang Kweng could be crying 'political injustice'."

That is nor here nor there. Imprisoned people may have more, or less legitimate grievances about "social injustices" but that is not the same thing as "political injustice".

I am no lover of Taksin but, he was voted in and overthrown in an illegal coup. That is simple fact, whether you address the inadequacies of the democratic system in its evolution or not.

    For Sceptic #2.
The best Thaksin’s policy: Selling shares of state enterprises (as PTT) to the public at very cheap valuation in the aim that the government can have the cash to support his populist policies.
Of course the shares were bought cheap by Thaksin’s cronies and family insiders, and sold at very high price. (PTT i.p.o. price 35 Baht, maximum value reached 440 baht).
By using this system, Thaksin collected a lot of cash to be able to corrupt more...
