Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said the government plans to call a meeting with the management of the State Railway of Thailand and the railway union next week to find solutions to problems within the organisation now that trains in the southernmost provinces have resumed services.
"Services have resumed," Mr Abhisit said. "I may call a meeting next week."
It is the responsibility of the government to help end problems and bring normalcy back, he said, adding that people must not be take as a hostage in any conflicts.
On Wednesday, SRT governor Yutthana Thapchaoroen ordered the dismissal of six employees at Hat Yai station and two leading members of the railway union over the blockage of railway services in the lower South.
Mr Abhisit said those who were fired can appeal if they feel they have not been fairly treated.
Mr Yutthana confirmed they have 15 days to appeal their dismissal.
The six staff were fired, effective immediately, because they did not belong to the union. They were also prohibited from entering Hat Yai railway station.
The other two would be taken to the Labour Court to hear an application to terminate their employment, Mr Yutthana said.
