UDD: Rally no linking to Thaksin rank

Police rank stripping of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is not the condition for the red-shirts to rally against the government next month, Jatuporn Promphan, a core leader of the pro-Thaksin United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), insisted on Saturday afternoon.

“The mass anti-government demonstration in late November of the red-shirts is planned in advance. More than one million people are expected to turn out at the rally”, Mr Jatuporn said.

He confirmed that UDD will not lead its crowds to lay siege to Government House or other state offices and that the rally will be peaceful.

Mr Jatuporn noted that the government was using the Thaksin rank’s stripping issue to cover its failures in solving the pressing problems of the country.

He thought that the rank stripping is the royal authority of His Majesty the King.

1 million to protest end of November, any trouble there and Thailand can say goodbye to high season for sure. Used to take me over 1 hour to go through immigration a few years back, now it takes 10 mins,

Some talk about democracy as though without it, nothing is legitimate within a government.

But where is the legitimacy when the democracy itself is illegitimate?

Sometimes the smartest guy in the room is wrong.

The Thai political system is broken, from a western perspective, but only because the west is desensitized to its own forms of massive corruption.

Like most places in the world, the nationals of Thailand love their country -- warts and all! -- and live life as it is.

This is exactly the same as in, say, America, where presidencies are stolen, most white collar crime goes unnoticed, the nation is effectively insolvent, and the dogma has the people still chanting "We're Number ONE".

As Einstein said, "nationalism is the measles of mankind".

George, you are correct in your thinking. The government should worry less about Thaksin and more about the country.

And wal it is simple math. UDD = the majority of the voters in Thailand.

Whether the economy improves, or the Govt. stumbles into a fortuitous circumstances, does not give them legitimacy.

They remain a Govt. hoisted into place through undemocratic means.

Until this situation is rectified, nothing else matters.

The UDD democracy Movement is not agitating for revolutionary armageddon.....just a fair and free election......what is the problem here!

    Just do it!

Its a simple math. For the type of democracy practised by UDD and PTP.

Actually UDD / PTP, are afraid that, the present governament machinery started moving with a good pace and economy will improve.

Its waste of national human assets geting involved enmasse like this. Its an irony that Thaksin has to use such a force to plant his proxy or plant himself in power.

Thaksin and his people has taken diferent avatar, in these 3 years. This is the latest one going to happen.

One million attending a democracy Rally end of November huh!

Lucky for Govt. UDD is a political pressure movement......pressuring toward the re-establishment of electoral democracy, and not a militia like the PAD. Can you imagine if the braintrust of the PAD could command such numbers....is there a bigger Suvarnabhum? Or a bigger border to express their Nationalism?

Just have a one-person-one-vote election and get rid of all this protesting necessity.
