Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva pledged to quickly go ahead with projects to develop the southern region as proposed by the private sector in the five southern border provinces.

Mr Abhist said after a two-hour meeting with representatives from the business sector in the five southern provinces at CP Grand Tower hotel in Hat Yai that the representatives called on the government to extend term of the soft loan scheme to assist help manufacturers affected by negative impact of global financial crisis for another five years.

In addition, the private sector wanted the government to press ahead with projects on logistic development, the land-bridge linking between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, the dual rail track development and the development of the region’s tourism, he added.

He promised to table all proposals by the southern private sector to the cabinet meeting to materialize them as soon as possible.
