P.Thai: Pattani City idea being distorted

The government is twisting and misrepresenting the proposal for a self-governing Pattani City in the far South as a step towards ending the insurgency, Puea Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit complained on Tuesday.

Mr Prompong said party chairman Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyuth did not propose the southernmost border provinces to be made an independent or autonomous state called Pattani City, as claimed by people in the government , including Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban and Thepthai Senpong, personal spokesman forf the Democrat Party leader.

He said Gen Chavalit meant only the setting up of a special administrative area, similar to Pattaya City, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Chiang Mai City.

Gen Chavalit was a former senior military officer and former prime minister. It was unthinkable that he would support an idea to divide the country, he said.

Mr Prompong said Gen Chavalit had gone to the far South to get first-hand information, so he could take concrete steps to solve the insurgency problem.

The Puea Thai spokesman said there were many special laws being applied only in the South where the problems were different from those in other regions.

Gen Chavalit wanted a special administration which could really respond to the needs of the people, he said.

Thaksin was singlehandedly let the insurgency out of the bottle and now he wants to exploit its outing even more, politically, of course.

BROKEN RCORD: You are the broken record. At every turn you anti-democracy people twist and turn every possible moment into one that keeps people thinking about Taksin and imperfect democracy, so that they will not look at the real problems, a government for the wealthy and powerful that ignore the poor.

This article is not about Taksin, and is not about the coup, nor about the elections that were stolen from the people.

The article is about how the government will turn anything and everything the opposition does upside down and inside out to try to fool the people into believing the opposition is incapable, devious and, now that Prem has stated it openly, possibly traitorous.

You people that parrot these lies and the manipulative propaganda are sheep unable to do otherwise than following each other along through the lovely pastures of people that have no problems in life.

ty living a few years like the poor people in the countryside, and have a few kids, then realize they have no future either.

We will who who you will be voting for when you have been stripped of your advantages in life and have to struggle day after day, year after year...generation after generation...with no possibility of bettering your lives.

    Broken record:

    >Thaksin was the best Prime Minister Thailand ever had.

    > "I'm so tired of hearing people pining away for elections"............So lets just do away with them altogether, right Broken Record? Lets just appoint politicians, especially those of our own kind, right Broken Record?

    >Lets inflate the issue of buying votes, accuse one side of doing it, and then make solemn declarations that due to the scourge of vote buying, it is better that Politicians are appointed. This is the best solution for when we cannot win an election, right Broken Record? This will also prevent those uneducated masses from "pining away for elections".

Buying votes is just as fraudulent as a coup - but in some cases, coups or revolutions can be justified if the ruling government has exceeded its mandate. By all measures, observers, including the West that was using Thaksin, he was a tyrant and an autocrat. Coup was what the doctor ordered.

Im so tired of hearing people pine for elections. They are so obviously rigged and have been for so long that anyone saying other wise is most likely being paid as well.

    Raimund:

    > Vote buying is bad. It has been a fact of electioneering forever in Thailand, perpetrated by all sides. It should be criminalized, with both buyer and seller equally guilty. For one side to all-of-a-sudden play this holier-than-thou role is purely part of an orchestrated campaign - that being to demonize their electoral nemesis Mr. Thaksin. It is a red herring used for purposes entirely different than ostensibly taking offense at vote buying. You notice they offer no solutions. They dont want solutions. They want to do away with elections and this is a handy shibboleth.
    > Who placed this Govt. in power? They were hoisted into power by non-elective forces, by non-representative, non-democratic institutions. No amount of political window-dressing will change that, as much as you may try.
    >Puae Thai are the extension of democratically elected parties. You know this background as well as I do.

A more suitable question may be when will this electorally invalid Government expose the Puae Thai party to the electorate. That should clear up any misunderstanding about its' electoral strength for you.

Why does a spoken word from politicians always have to be interpreted and its meaning explained?
Would be wiser to say nothing .
Caballa ,do you mean that vote buying is democratic means. Who placed this government in power? Was it not elected by all parties in government?Puea Thai never was elected by the people.

It is noteworthy that more attention is being paid to Chavalit and Puea Thai pronouncements, that those of Suthep, Abhisit and friends.

    And so it should be.

One represents the electoral majority in Thailand, while the latter represents only those who placed them in power through undemocratic means. These could be facetiously referenced as a "tyranny of the minority".
