Fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra thanked Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen for appointing him an economic adviser.

“I have just received a copy of King Sihamoni’s royal appointment from Mr Hun Sen. I Thank Mr Hun Sen for giving me such an honour. But I would have more enjoyment if I ccould work to eradicate Thai people’s poverty,” Thaksin said on his in his twitter website on Thursday morning.

Cambodia on Wednesday appointed Thaksin personal adviser to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and adviser to the Cambodian government on the economy.

It a statement read on state television yesterday, the Cambodian government said all charges against Thaksin were “politically motivated”, and vowed not to extradite him if he decides to stay in Cambodia or travels in and out of Cambodia to fulfill his duties.

Noppadon Pattama, a former foreign minister and close associate of Thaksin, said Mr Hun Sen appointed Thaksin advisor because he could see  his potential.

He rejected criticism that Thaksin had achieved his target strategy of a “world surrounding Thailand”. Mr Noppadon said  world would not surround Thailand and attack the Thai government, but the world would try to help resolve Thailand's problems.

    Hi KevinKhmer:

Thank you for your update. If what you said is true today on Cambodia, then PM Hun Sen should consider national bilateral with neighboring coutries and the people of Cambodia as the first priority than personal interest with Thaksin which will indirectly affect Cambodia. The arrogant and non diplomatic nature of Hun Sen is very disgusting. If Cambodians want to advance in both economics and military, they need to look carefully at Hun Sen who always uses nationalism for his self glorification and motive to get more votes without considering the living conditions of its people. A country can only be supreme in both economics and military when the people have enough to eat and spend.

    Michael,

It’s a great equation. However, please make a notice that while Cambodia at war for forty year, Thailand enjoyed great prosperity and technological advance with billion of U.S money as well as other allies pouring into Thai’s economy and the military.

As we speak and at this moment, Cambodia is advancing in education, information and technology, finance, political, economy, military training and peacekeeping, and relationship with other countries. Given the period of the Vietnam War, Killing Field, refugee and migration period; you must give Cambodian credits for their audacity and free will to succeed and to be independent. In term of military superiority that has not been tested in modern warfare; it was briefly tested on the border, which resulted in multiple Thai’s Soldiers killed and captured as well as few Cambodian Soldiers killed. Cambodia has survived 800 years of Siam and Viet interfering of their free will, independent and political.

Remember, it is not hardware that wins the war, but the human dimension and human truth. What makes you think NATO is having tremendous problems with Afghans now? These countries are superior military, economically, politically, and technologically. They succumb to an IED, a Stone Age weapon.

Tara, you make a very interesting point, particularly if Cambodia offer him a diplomatic passport - though perhaps he should not chance using it to come to Thailand!

Newton Third Law said,"There is an opposite and equal reaction." Thaksin and PT especially Noppadon Pattama (mouthpiece of Thaksin) should not be too happy with Thaksin's involvment in Cambodia. Most Thais want to see supremacy of Thailand when comparing with Cambodia and they have the strong loyalty and dignity for Thailand. The act of Hun Sen is depising Thailand and indirectly hurt the dignity of the citizens of Thailand. The collaboration of Thaksin, PT, and Noppadon with Hun Sen will indirectly create more hatred of Thaksin and PT among the Thais. From economics and military point of views, Thailand is way more superior than Cambodia and Thai people will no way allow the Cambodians to take advantage and depise Thailand. PM Apisith may play a psychology game that is allowing Hun Sen, Thaksin, and PT to push Thailand into a corner and when opportunity arise, Thaksin and Hun Sen will get double of what they deserve if they still enjoying this psychological and political warfare.

I wonder where Thaksin got the money from to buy this position. It certainly must have been pretty expensive.

I don't know if it's possible but if PM Hun Sen gave Former PM Thaksin a position that gave him diplomatic immunity, then I believe he could travel where he wants and can not be touched.
