Thaksin accepts advisory job

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra said on Thursday he had agreed to take the position of honorary economic adviser to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.

It would enable him to keep his brain sharp while he was still not able to serve the Thai people, he said on his twitter website.

"I would ask for permission from the Thai people to give economic advice to the government of Cambodia, according to my appointment by King Sihamoni, until I can return to the country.

''In fact, I have already served as an adviser to other governments. I take this as a way of keeping my brain sharp, otherwise it could become rusty if I don't keep abreast of new ideas and developments.

"I want to work for the Thai people, but I cannot.  They don't even let me carry a Thai passport.

''They would also strip me of my police rank and recall my royal decorations. They would even take away my nationality and race, if they could, only because I worked too hard.

''Our neighbour is not an enemy. Since we have to be close to each other forever, it's better that we should be friends."

Noppadon Pattama, Thaksin's legal adviser, said he had talked to the former prime minister about this matter. Thaksin felt very honoured and would give Mr Hun Sen advice on how to solve economic and poverty problems.

Several countries had had made Thaiksin an adviser, including Nicaragua, and many others would follow suit, Mr Noppadon said.

Mr Noppadon said it would not be necessary for Thaksin to move to stay in Cambodia because he could give his advice on the telephone or the internet.

"Thaksin has not scheduled a trip to Cambodia at this time, so the government does not need to worry or feel shakey because this is not about politics. nor is a move to seek  asylum," Mr Noppadon said.

Mr Noppadon also said Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyudh's Pattani City proposal is only a form of special administration similar to Pattaya City or the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to decentralise power to the people of the lower South. It was not about secession.

The Puea Thai Party chairman was only presenting an alternative, Mr Noppadon said.

Why do people put all the blame for the current economic troubles on the current government? Do you guys not realize that we are in the middle of a world wide recession? I don't care who is in charge in Thailand, they would not be able to have a great economy in todays economic climate.

There have been so many coups in Thailand. At what point do you say that a new government is a legal one? Wasnt there another coup not 15 years ago? Wouldnt that make all the governments since then illegal? Shouldnt the people run out of office 15 years ago be reinstated? Wouldnt that make Thaksin's government illegal as well?

Didnt the coup leaders create a new constitution that the people voted on and approved? Didnt the Thai people have free elections and elect the current government of Thailand? Sure another group had power, but because of violating the constitution and vote fraud, they were kicked out of office, but I believe they still had the numbers and could have continued to be in power if some of their friends in office did not decide that they had enough of their crap and decided to join the opposition.

    Hun Sen Fun Fact:
It's all about money and power for Thaksin and his party members! It doesn't matter for them whose hand they shake. Quite recently another Puea Thai member called Than Schwe his broher and comes out as an admirer of Thein Sein, the worlds most brutal leaders. They don't care for their People at all and they never will.
Thailand needs a new generation of politicians, young educated people who are willing to care for all and who fight the omnipresent corruption. The current government has a hard time to solve the most urgent problems, and Puea Thai will be even worse along with friends and brothers from Burma and Cambodia.

In 1997, Hun Sen and his supporters oust the Democratically elected Funcinpec party in a bloody military coup. Many of the fighters supporting Hun Sen were ex-Khmer Rouge. Funcinpec leadership was either sent into exile or executed.

Judging by the sounds of it, the government in Cambodia is just as bad as the tyrants in Burma. Why would champion of the people, proponent of democracy Thaksin want to even shake hands with a tyrant like Hun Sen? ...

Bubba, there is a big difference between speaking up for the poor, and shilling for Thaksin and the criminals that are behind him.

You are a shill. Poor people need drastically improved education, and for corrupt elitists, like Thaksin (even the Democrats) to stop exploiting them. Only then will elections and constitutions have a roll to play.

When is the last time you spoke up about that? Never, all you do is stick up for Thaksin and now Hun Sen! Hun Sen is selling his people out to the point where they are being thrown off their land as he sells it to foreigners! He has been in office for DECADES and Cambodia is a sewer because of it. He is a tyrant, a living example of the corruption that has mired Southeast Asian progress.

Now that Thaksin is an Advisor and apart of the Cambodian Government, any contact by PT or any other PM with him outside of an official response by the Government, can be seen as Collusion and against Thai policies, and maybe could be regarded as treasonous..

ROT what difference has your post made to the "superior" member of society?

Absolutely right though, these comments sections are not going to influence the wealthy and power-holders. I comment because the poor and near poor have little voice here, other than those of us that speak on their behalf.

That may be a meaningless act in a meaningless universe. But we have to life "as if" it has a meaning...

He has to work for Cambodia so he can keep his mind sharp for when he returns to Thailand?

He must think Thai people are clinically retarded with the minds of 5 year olds to think anyone will believe this. He IS a wacky cult leader - just think about some of the ridiculous things cult leaders have said to their followers to justify their behavior before leading them all off cliffs, to the kool-aid, or into matching jogging suits and nikes (Heaven's Gate.)

Feel so sorry for Thai people, now Thaksin are making all the Cambodians rich and succesfull like he did here within the 5 years he was PM.

But I can tell you khun Thaksin, you haven´t finished your job here yet, there are still so many poor and uneducated people here, why ?

Because you are not so smart like you want to be.
You said you could turn the country around in 2 years but had 5 years here where you just been stealing the money from the Thai people.

So just go ahead in Cambodia, wish you good luck and we will NOT miss you here, don´t worry.

While we're speaking of grammar and sentence structure, here is a correct version of the previous post (see if you can spot the differences!):

Looking at the sentence structure, grammar, spelling, and 'in-depth' knowledge of the posters below, it's no wonder Mr.T, the Military, and even Mark take advantage of an under-educated, ever pliant general public (the common people).

10 posts and not one of them will make one iota of a difference to these 'superior' members of our society.

Hope you all feel better now and sleep well tonight.
