Thepthai Senpong, spokesman for Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, slammed ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra over his interview with The Times, saying the comments in the interview were offensive to the royal institution.

It is the interview that deemed most offensive to the royal institution, he said.

Richard Lloyd Parry, asia editor of The Times, interviewed Thaksin in Dubai and the transcript was posted by Timesonline today.

His report said Thaksin had called for reform of the monarchy and spoke of a future "shining" era when HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, the son of His Majesty the King, takes the throne.

Mr Thepthai called on all parties to take action on this matter, saying that it affected the feelings of Thais.

Democrat Party spokesman Buranat Samutarak said that this is not the first time Thaksin has offended the high institution.

He also said that the Democrat Party will propose the government and security agencies consider appropriate action against media that report the interview.

All I can say is Thaksin has used up his last bit of good will. Any hope he had of returning to Thailand under a banner of forgiveness is now hopelessly impossible. Should any of his far fetched dreams come true, and he does come back to the country and re enter politics, there will be civil war. Too many people are absolutely offended.

Except for his minority of ardent supporters, most of the country will never accept him now. He made a huge mistake this time.

I wonder how these people know that the "institution" is offended?

did they ask anyone? or just make it up to suit themselves?

are they guilty of lese majeste for claiming to speak for the "institution"?

98% of Thais have no idea who this Richard Lloyd Parry is. He has been on Thaksins Payroll for over 5 years and has been an ardent supporter of this despot. He is presently involved in writing a book about him.
When will we here about the "Lese Majeste" laws or is it is going to take 5 years to translate. Look what happened to Da Torpedo. 19 years in the slammer. Fair justice is it.

    "affected the emotions of Thais?"

Yeah, it affected them alright. They're laughing so hard, they're falling of their chairs...

    Thai politicians are quite funny.

You dont expect the democrat to praise their main opposition leader right?

btw, if this "shinning" interview is considered as "insult" then people really need to get a life
