The Siam Samakkhi Group on Tuesday filed two complaints alleging lese majeste with Dusit police against former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and two other people.

The complaints were lodged on behalf of the group by senators Somchai Sawaengkarn and Warin Thiamjarat, Gen Somchet Boonthanom, former chief of the secretariat of the Council for National Security, and Lt-Gen Nanthadet Meksawat, former deputy chief of the national intelligence coordination centre.

The first complaint was against Thaksin and Richard Loyd Parry, editor of the Asia edition of The Times, which published the Thaksin interview in which he referred to the monarchy.

The second was against Jai Ungphakorn, a former lecturer of Chulalongkorn University who fled the country after being charged with lese majeste, and the website redsiam.net for disseminating articles alleged to contain lese majeste.

for anyone who claims that thaksin has committed a lese majeste, did you read the interview transcript yet?
blocking public access to the information and make general public accept his own personal perception is not a wise move to an average person.

All the complainers are either appointed by or part of the coup. figures.

The charge to the Times will really bring back the good vibes for Thailand. Won't get much good international press for a while. You would almost think they want to keep the country insulated.

I have now read the interview with Taksin and in no way does it suggest he belittles or attacks or does anything other than praise the royal family. It would take a very paranoid reader to assume this.

To suggest otherwise is of course not paranoia, but purely political and meant to disturb his supporter base in the countryside.

Thailand has already apparently banned the interview in Thailand. That has nothing to do with protecting the kingdom, the royal family or the people. It is, pure and simple because if the interview is read it is evident Taksin has nothing to be held accountable for.

Another sham in the country that Kafka and Orwell teamed up towrite into existence.

i would advise the current government to resolve the economy's issues rather than popularize themselves by sensationalizing thaksin's interview.

This government will jump at any excuse to bash Thaksin, regardless if it is legitimate or not! They do not bother with facts or attempt to find out if charges are legitmate, before screaming that Thaksin did it!

The current Abhisit government must use precautions in displaying ultra ethnocentricism. The government is risking losing credibility with the Thai people as well as the international community because of its reactionary stance. It should be proactive rather than reactionary. Any case of defamation or Lese Majeste is not only against the person who makes the declaration but also against any person who publishes it. Ask any lawyer, he will tell you.

I read Thaksin's comments, it is not censored where I am. I thought it showed he is loyal to his Majesty and has nothing but reverence and praise for the Royal family. But he is also critical of General Prem.

Have I understood the Thailand Lese majeste law correctly? I thought it protects his Majesty from criticism, not General Prem from criticism.

So I don't understand how the Lese majeste apply to General Prem?
