Bangkok 50 Group joins Puea Thai

A number of young politicians in the Bangkok 50 Group have decided to join the opposition Puea Thai Party, group leader Pol Lt-Col Kulthon Prachuabmoh announced on Tuesday.

Pol Lt-Col Kulthon said he had consulted with both Yaowapa Wongsawat, a younger sister of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and Sudarat Keyuraphan, a former deputy leader of the now-defunct Thai Rak Thai Party, before applying for Puea Thai membership along with other members of the group.

The group decided to do this despite the ongoing opposition against Thaksin for his interview with The Times because his comments had been distorted, he said.

"We believe Thaksin is loyal to the monarchy, otherwise we would not support him," Pol Lt-Col Kulthon said.

He said after two years with three prime ministers, the country's politics was still going nowhere.  The Democrat Party had not only been unable to lead the country through various crises, but had also been plagued with corruption.

Therefore, Bangkok 50 Group, whose members were people of a new generation from good families, with knowledge and ability, decided to join Puea Thai, Pol Lt-Col Kulthon said.

Well-known members of the group included Boon-anant Piampongsant, ML Nathapol Devakula, a nephew of former finance minister MR Pridiyathorn Devekula, Virayuth Bodharamik, Trakarn Phanthumlertruji, an actor, and Pornsak Srilamun.

Plodprasop Surasawadi, a deputy Puea Thai leader, said he was confident the party, with support from at least 14 million people throughout the country, would win the next election and return to be government.

I believe Abhisit was educated at Oxford. How could Oxford produce a student like that, who is very resourceful and knowledgeable but yet very unethical. Do we consider a man who has all the knowledge but yet act like a lousy dude, an ethical person? Thailand is a civilized country and Thailand needs to understand that. Is Thailand finding it hard to accept a man who's very popular and productive? LET'S DO THE ELECTION to find out that.

Dis-11 really? and what do you call those old bone from the Dem?? come on there are always two type of people, liberal or conservative - education doesnt make people liberal or conservative (although Thais' education is heavily conservative lean)
If we want to have a education reform maybe we should start with teaching "real" history first?? and not those that promote ultra-nationalism?

Please Ricefield, were you born yesterday? This isn't "young blood" these are the spoiled brats of crooked old thugs. They are just going to pick up the torch of nepotism, cronyism, and corruption and run with it!

When a party comes forward to drastically reform education on par with Japan or Singapore, I might believe change is on the way. Until then, this is just another PR stunt - "Bangkok 50" has been on the PTP bandwagon since day one. They are just circling the wagons.

For those that obviously don't know from their comments. The PTP has actively been trying to bring new young blood into the party. This is just the latest move to revamp the party and the image. For all the problems with all old politicians, regardless of party affiliation, it is refreshing to find some new young people willing to step up and take a chance. For Thailand I hope that the Democrat party and other parties will attract some young people as well.

Until the face of parliament changes, and it will in time, to reflect a modern vibrant Thai Democracy, we will be stuck in the present circle. Just maybe one of these, or some other, young person will become the one that will guide us out of the muck and into a new era.

    Discussion 8 : 11/11/2009 at 01:23 AM8

Wonder how much these PR stunts got paid?

Definitely not 500Baht each ... maybe 5,000 Baht/each ... since these self-opinioned Bangkok 50 Group, boast of being "a new generation from good families, with knowledge and ability, decided to join Puea Thai, Pol Lt-Col Kulthon said." ... as compare to the fellow "lower class red shirts" from the country side???

Discussion 1, those people were never with Abhisit, the first person they consulted was the sister of the fugitive convicted criminal, anyone with some sense would understand.
