Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Friday reaffirmed his plan to visit Chiang Mai on Nov 29 to attend the Thai Chamber of Commerce meeting despite threats made to his safety.

He believed local security officials would be able to keep the situation under control, although they might have some limitations.

Mr Abhisit said the threats were made on community radio stations, so security officials would have to work harder.

He admitted feeling a little insecure about the visit, but he had to perform his duty to restore confidence in the private sector.

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban  said he was worried by the theats on Mr Abhisit's life and had instructed local authorities to step up security measures.

Great...there goes our expected 3% or so GDP increase for next year which is probably a lie anyways. It's all going to pay for the cost of securing the PM's life. Easy come, easy go...

We should all witness the record breaking "security protection" in the history of visting Prime Minister..on this trip.
Wonder what it will cost the tax payers.

The people should show more respect to the office of the Prime Minister Abhisit whether they like the person or not.
