Red-shirts rally threat in Chiang Mai

A leader of the Rak Chiang Mai 51 group on Friday threatened to organise a gathering to chase away cabinet ministers who attend the Thai Chambers of Commerce annual meeting in Chiang Mai this weekend.

If there are cabinet ministers from the ruling Democrat Party at the meeting, then the red-shirts would rally to evict them, said Petchwat Wattanapongsirikul of Chiang Mai 51.

That included members of the Bhumjaithai Party like Newin Chidchob and Interior Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul, who were also on the groups target list, he said.

But the group would not hold a mass anti-government rally now that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva had cancelled his visit to the province. They did not want to scare off tourists.

"It is the high season in Chiang Mai. We do not want a protest to affect tourism if it is not necessary," he said.

Mr Abhisit called off his trip to Chiang Mai after the Thai Chambers of Commerce withdrew its invitation for him to attend its annual meeting because of concerns for his safety in the northern capital.

Now those of you foreigners who make comments here about the red-shirts being thugs or terrorists,go and reflect back:who was the group that started terrorising places in bangkok?eg.government houses, illegally occupying both international and domestic bangkok airports.Needless to say:Its the Yellow-Shirt lead by Mr Sondhi. If you think that Chiangmai is not safe to come, then don't come.Remember 2 years back during the New Year's Eve in Bangkok, how many bombs went off and how many tourists were killed?Who was ruling the country then? The Interim Government.Till now,we have not got an answer or news from the DSI or the investigators who are responsible?

This red shirt group in Chang Mai are nothing but a terrorist group intent on violence and will soon demand that Chang Mai be self goverened like the situation down south. Any group of poeple in a civilised country that promotes the threating of the life of the PM would immediatley be arrested, but such is the weakness of the political landscape everyone steps aside.

Red shirt strong hold indeed, who do they think they are. You can now see Thaskin is starting to distance himself from the group because he can also see they are starting to become a violent organisation intent on bringing all of Thailand to its knees.
