UDD outlines protest plans

The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) plans protest rallies at many locations in Bangkok before the end of the year, core leader Suporn Attawong said on Thursday.

Mr Suporn said the UDD plans to protest at the Foreign Ministry next week because it cannot stand Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, who constantly attacks ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

The group also plans to rally at the Constitution Court and the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), he said.

On Wednesday, the group rallied at the Election Commission offices to protest against the agency's delay in deciding whether to recomment the dissolution of the ruling Democrat Party.

He said he and UDD leader Arisman Pongruangrong will join the protests.

Mr Suporn said he was not worried that police might revoke bail and they would not stop their political movement,

Mr Suporn and Mr Arisman are currently on bail. Mr Suporn is accused of leading red-shirts in trespassing on  the Interior Ministry and attacking Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's vehicle in Apirl.

Mr Arisman led the red-shirts in laying seige to the Asean summit in Pattaya and occupying the venue, forcing the emergency evacuation of regional leaders, in April.

He, however, said the UDD leaders will not join the protest to be held on Dec 27 and 28 at Sanam Luang which is organised by June 24 Democracy group, because the planned protest was not agreed to by the UDD core leaders.

UDD would not accept any responsibility for any violence during the protest, he said.

My life is enriched by receiving all of this vital information regarding the ever-increasing factional splintering of a 'mass', 'popular' movement - oh, but sorry, I have to go and watch some paint dry.

    Forward in All Directions!

Can the reds find someone more acceptable to lead the reds? Don't they have someone more respected by the public than Arisman, Suporn, Jatuporn, Nattawut, ... whose names are badly tainted and words come out from their mouth without much thinking. It is very difficult for Thaksin to gain back his good name if he still keep using these men to help him. In the past Thaksin has many capable men working under him, where have they gone?

Using threat and violent will only make thing worse for the Reds and Thaksin. Nelson Mandela has won the heart of the Africans and people all over the world not through threat nor violent.

Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia opposition leader, initially won the hearts of the people, but when Anwar's motive was to take revenge, he lost most of his charisma and support. Thaksin needs a quiet time to meditate and seriously learn from both Nelson and Anwar on their pros and cons in dealing with the government and getting support from the people.
