PM: Children must be good people

Children are future of the country, especially at a time that the Thai society needs the smart and good people, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Saturday morning.

The speech was made while the premier was chairing a function to open the national Children’s Day at Nimibutr building of the Suphachalasai National Stadium in Bangkok.

Mr Abhisit also expressed his wishes for the children to have happiness and knowledge the whole day of the Children’s Day celebration.

Shouldn't the PM have also said, "Do as I say, not as I do."???? What kind of example is being set for the children when the leader of a proxy government that overthrew a legitimate government and is protecting the sinisterly rich tells these children to "be good"? A bit hypocritical I think!

I agree with Pointman 2 & Ben There...The PM has the vision, however, the way schools operate here are a dismal mess..Go and assess the private family owned bilingual schools & you'll understand why.

It's all about money... Thai administrators keep on seeking solutions from foreigners but fail to accept any of them & do it the Thai way.

Thailand is no cousin of other Asian country because they don't seem to represent the Asian way of doing things for their own. Instead, they copy ideas with no integrity & mess it up with their incompetence...All for $.

A good example would be learning subjects sequentially for mastery. They stuff a lot of info. beyond a child's capacity with no production, synthesis, application etc.....They really don't care. I'm really saddened by this because Thai children have so much potential.

These private bilingual schools run like a mini corrupted gov't.

Yes kids, please 'do good for the country'.

But please kids, avoid reading newspapers and watching or listening to government/military controlled TV & radio, as just in the last week, your self-appointed, educated elites, like Deputy Health Minster Manit and General Surayed have clearly put their interests above those of the country they are supposed to serve.

As 'Pointman 2' indicates, better to follow the example of your Asian cousins in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore etc. than the majority of Thai politicians.

In a country with only a national baby sitting educational system that has no merit in education one must ask how this will be accomplished. Even in the best schools in Bangkok it is all about money. All will pass even the turnips while the brightest will settle to just getting by. The best teachers in the Thai schools unfortunately are the farang teachers and they are relegated to subjugation by racism, and treatment that would have the schools and many individual managers sued, fired and imprisoned. Just ask any English teacher how they are viewed on their campusses and you will see how bad Thai schools view the foreign teachers expertise, experience and abilities. It could be that the certified teachers of the west are comparatively the most educated teachers in the world and have the ability to educate the Thai out of this educational void.

    Bless the children.
However if they follow the example set by so many of the 'leaders' (misleaders) of this country they are doomed to a life of deception, corruption and hypocrisy.
May they grow up with the mortal fiber to be strongly independent of their predecessors.

I commend PM Abhisit for being aware, of how children are brought up, determines the future of a country.

The best example of children being educated and the end result, is evident, in South Korea.
