About 400 red-shirted supporters of the pro-Thaksin United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) rallied outside police headquarters early on Wednesday causing heavy traffic congestion on Rama 1 road.

The red-shirts demanded a progress report on the prosecution of leaders of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) who led supporters to lay occupy Government House and Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports in late 2008.

They used six-wheel truck as a temporary rally stage where UDD core leaders took turns lambasting the Abhisit government and the president of the Privy Council Prem Tinsulanonda.

Two companies of metropolitan and riot police were deployed outside the headquarters grounds, and a company of special branch police inside the perimeter to prevent the red-shirts entering the grounds.

Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew, an adviser to the Royal Thai Police and deputy director of the operations centre for demonstration control, said UDD representatives wouldbe allowed inside  to submit their petition.

He was confident the demonstration would not be prolonged.

Good well said Kanit. I like the idea of a TV show big brother style. Imagine 2 media moguls with no connection to the outside world and a guy making guns out of anything he can find.

Would the media moguls resort to smoke signals or just throwing messages over the fence.

It is probably exactly what these guys need. If we like at the argument they are putting forward it is pretty much the same. They could have a power sharing movement with striped shirts.

Somchai, the Reds learned this method from the Yellows who has till now has zero claims or charges.

"About 400 red-shirted supporters".....that's about 999,600 fewer than what the UDD bragged we would see. Maybe they didn't mean one million all at once nor in one place. How many months/years is this charade going to drag on?

However, I do agree with their demand for action on the Pad leaders. Sondhi and Chamlong belong in jail along with the three core leaders of the UDD and Seh "Dung". Perhaps they could all share a cell and the TV networks could make a Thai-style reality show out of it.

I love these guys. Their claims may or may not be legitimate, but blocking everyone elses life in order to get what they want is definately not going to win them any additional support.

the article says 400 demonstrators. The red shirt leaders will probably claim it was close to 1.000.000 demonstrators, and that the article is biased. I wonder who is right?

Are the UDD a legal entity , ie , a registered political party or a company or another type of organization. If they raise money through dinners and other events as stated by some of their leaders do they pay tax on the corporate income and personal tax on the personal income paid to the 400 staffers who have blocked Rama 1.

    Just curious. Does anyone know.

Today The Fugitive's redskirts caused major disruption to Thai people and business along Rama 1 road. All the people suffering should claim compensation directly from Gen Chavalit.
