Thaksin: Dictatorship still in politics

Dictatorship is so deeply rooted in Thai politics it is not easy for the country to free itself from it, ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra said in an interview posted on the Thai Rath website.

That is why there it was not suprising that dictatorship remained  so much a part of democracy in Thailand in the four years since the military coup that ousted him from office, he said in a telephone interview. The story was posted on Friday.Thaksin said  there is a chance that dictatorship will disappear from the country, but it will take time."Politicians have sold their souls to dictatorship in the hope that it will extend their time in power," Thaksin said. "This is frightening."He said Thai politics had not changed for the better since the Sept 19, 2006 military coup."No, it has not improved. Not at all," he said. "Some politicians sell their souls to power, benefits and survival."He said it was up to the people to decide if they still wanted to fight for "true democracy".He...

He said national reconciliation is the most important thing that needs to be achieved at this time, in order to restore democracy in the country.

PM Abhisit has already said this long time ago.Now PTP and their leader Thaksin say same thing. I guess only a good idea if you come up with it.

Thaksin calling the shiny kettle black. Two days ago he said he was keeping quiet as he did not want to be seen as agitating politics in Thailand....and now this outrageous statement. He is willing to sacrifice any part of Thaialnd to satisfy his greed.

When Thaksin was Prime Minister, independent agencies like the Bank of Thailand, were not really independent. Just Six months after been elected, he fired a governor, because the Bank of Thailand wanted to keep the interest rates low, in the aim of helping the small borrowers and the small businesses. And Thaksin wanted high interest rates because he had for sure, a lot of money (never declared) to fructify.
So, under the dictatorship of Thaksin, independent agencies were not really independents!

The Taksin-bashers are having a field day. Their hatred reflects the cause of today's situation in Thailand more than anything else.

I never liked Taksin and he has a lot of black spots on his sheet but, he was elected and despite trying to twist democracy to his own desires he thrived within a new, young democracy in evolution.

The Taksin bashers are so excited because unless they can make him out to the the devil incarnate their own political sins have to be looked at. Putsches, tearing up the country's first ever peoples constitution, banning politicians selectively, banning opposition media, falsely accusing and arresting people, killing 90 people in the streets.

Compared to Mandela Taksin is a skurk. Compared to the military and democrats and PAD he is a Mandela.

It does not take an ex PM or rocket scientist to know how Thailand is governed and has been for a long time. Thailand is not a democracy by any stretch of the imagination. Simply study Thai political history and it becomes very clear to those that are brainwashed or living in a bubble.
